Hacking Can a USB gecko replace a faulty drive?

About a year ago I botched up an attempt to chip my wii.

After I finished the mod, I stuck in a backup copy of zelda and it worked. However, when I came to eject the disc it wouldn't come out. Tried pulling it apart and putting it back together a million times but I've never got the thing to eject.

So, if I put ROMs onto a PC and connected it to the wii with a usb gecko could this get me 'round the fact that the cd drive is knackered or have I misunderstood the point on the device?

Edit: Also, is there a downside to doing it this way?

Edit x2: hmmm. Is it even possible to get one of these now? Are there any alternatives?

So all you want to do is play wii iso's? Or are you trying to get the DVD drive too work? Either way a USB gecko won't help you. If all you want to do is play wii games, look in to USB loading, all you need is a USB harddrive and a softmodded wii.
