I was wondering what it would cost to build a DS from scratch? I think i saw motherboards for like 40 bucks, screens are 22 something, and a case is about 13 or so from the infamous DX.

You do realize those motherboards on sale are broken in a way. Whether it is a fuse, cart reading, graphic, etc.

It is not worth it.
I once saw a bunch of DS motherboards on eBay in a bundle of 20 for like $10.

I thought it was too good to be true and I had the same idea. I checked the description and found that they were broken. Although no reason was given, I didn't wanna risk it being something that was unrepairable.

You're not gonna find a DS motherboard for cheap unless it's broken, and even so there's no guarantee it would go as planned.

Uhh, it's not like building a PC exactly, they don't just sell DS motherboards out there.
What about these?

best bet would be to avoid DX for cases, they feel like crap.
The one i bought was a little cramped. A little sanding would go along way.

sanding nothing, the shell I got was like putting it in rubber pants. the touch screen had 0 response, but was always 'tapped'. The plastic was too thin an reminded me of a happy meal

Oh heres the rest of the second tread.

So what are we up to?
40+22+13= $75
Now im not sure what i would be missing. A case comes with buttons, screws, and obviously a case.

A battery 3.50, L and R pads 1.44, power button 1.30, button pads 1.22, and power switch 1.30, and speakers 1.92, wifi antenna 2.22, mic 1.63, hinge shaft 2.23...
$15 more. so 90 bucks?

What am i missing?

Is that really worth it? I see DSi and DS Lite prices dropping by the day as stores claim to have "sales". Just yesterday I saw DSi's going for $99 with 1 free game.
I call HAX
the free game's probably a shovelware title XD

I bought 2 DS mainboards from Ebay some time ago, the seller thought they were broken but I could tell from the description that he was just stupid

so I only paid 2 bucks + shipping for 2 working DS mainboards XD

But in general it should be no big problem to build a DS from scratch. I could build a second DS just with a new top screen and a new housing, maybe I'll order these parts from DX.
