I'm up to the elite 4 and struggling. My starter pokemon is up to lvl 62 but it seems almost completely useless against the types in the elite 4. Can anyone recommend particular pokemon to train up that work well all round in the elite 4?

it can murder 80% of the E4.

Go train a scraggy to lev 45+ he beats 3 out 5 E4 single handed

Okay sweet thanks. Is the best place to train just the wild pokemon on victory road? I can't find anymore trainers around there
If you really want to make it as strong as possible, you should concern about EV and IV of your pokemon... but if you don't care, just do it anywhere you can get a bunch of exp

Wait; Is this your first run-through of the Four Heavenly Kings or the second?

A dark type and a psychic type will completely obliterate. If you are playing the second time, you're gonna need more variety.

I started with Oshawott and got him (and only him) up to lv. 71 by the time I reached the Elite 4. He knew Hydro Pump, Mega Horn, Water Pulse, and Revenge. He breezed through all of them (both times) and all of the stuff after.

Nah my first time. The game has been really easy up until now and now i've done the E4 three times, never beating more than 2 of them at a time. I have the fire starter. Moves like earthquake in the E4 completely ruin him and none of my other strongish pokemon stand up either. I'll level the pokemon suggested earlier as much as I can and see if that helps.

E-4 Team Types (Excluding the Champ)

FIGHT, PSYCHIC, FIRE, DARK/GHOST

Counters(That I can think of):

Flying, Dark, Ghost, Normal, Water, Ground, Rock.

The entire party should be around Levels 57-62
You will also need APX 25 Full Restores, 50 Full Heals (or Castelia Ice), 60 Max Potions, and 10 revives.
*It also wouldn't hurt to have Pokemon in your party hold stat-affecting hold items; I.E. Water Type = Mystic Water, Dark Type = Blackglasses, Quick Claw, Scope Lens, Focus Sash.

Also a great tactic to use is to have a Pokemon with the move endeavor and have it hold a focus sash.
Here's how it works
Opponent's Speed > Your Speed
Turn 1: Attack that would otherwise KO your Pokemon
-Focus Sash activates-
*You use Endeavor
Opponent's HP = Yours = 1HP
Turn 2: Use MAX Potion
Opponent attacks again leaving you with 1HP
You then follow up with any other attack besides Endeavor and KO the opponent!

For leveling up your Pokemon fast, trade your Pokemon to another game (White or Black) and do Extralink missions till you can use the EXP+++ power, then trade the Pokemon you wish to level-up and let it hold a lucky egg while activating the EXP+++ power.

NOT O.T. = EXP BOOST
Lucky Egg = EXP BOOST x2
EXP+++ = EXP BOOST x5

Thanks for that. I've been playing all day and this is ridiculous. Is there something i'm missing as to how you're meant to train a bunch of pokemon up to 60 on just the lvl 40 crap on victory road? It's taking soooo long

Quick Attack.

No.

Different OT: x1.5 exp boost
Different OT (Different country): x1.7 exp boost
Lucky egg: x1.5 exp boost
EXP+++: x2 exp boost

All those boosts stack.
