In their latest Switch game cartridge dump, the group have now revealed the master_key_01 and master_key_02 key strings (only the 00 key was available up until now).

"this will allow you to decrypt all your dumpable NCA files as well as our currently released games so far apart from Bayonetta2 as thats master_key_03"

It's worth noting that these keys can be used to decrypt .NCA files, the same week a Switch game cart dumper was released.

At the time of writing it is still impossible to run ripped Switch game cartridge files, but after this week, and a year of Switch hacks - it looks like we are closer than ever to seeing retail games running on hacked Switch systems.

Ouch? Well, apparently that's mostly for data mining. Data mining is both good and bad. Good because you can find in the game files awesome stuff like game models, ripping the music, or making translations. But sometimes data mining will give some spoilers due to developers leaving it there "accidentally" or because they think no one will acess to it.

As for Switch HB continously advancing and piracy breaking in - I'm certain Nintendo will always patch it quick, anyway. And as for me? I'm poor, but I won't be hacking my Switch anytime soon. It's a risk I won't take with something that coasted me so much

Even for Xbox360 back in 2008 when I bought it, DVDs-DL were pretty expensive here, they were around 5+EUR each here... While normal dvds we could buy 50 for around 1eur each.

I had to keep sending packs of 20 crapier dvds-DL from Portugal mainland, they were around 30 EUR + shipping, RGH was the best when it came out, but I'm still to see a console hacked like Xbox original with the best OS ever made 4 a console XBMC good Times...

Hope Nintendo Switch gets something like XBMC or android too...
the utopia boot disc was out early, it only took a few months. the utopia team was busted for this if my memory serves me right.
Yeah utopia I remember that :).

I like when a system gets hacked but I really don't want these hacks to be released anytime soon. Please just give the switch more time to get more good games. I really think when a system gets hacked it really discourages game companies from focusing on making good games or making games at all. I think backup loading should not happen for another year or two. If a game like smash bros is really new, I would really like to see a game like that sell well and not get downloaded for free.

ye ofc, companies making games for pc are rare, sure...
As I said earlier, saying that piracy ruins console is fake news

I know that's not always the case because I really think piracy was one of the main reasons the wii sold well but I know there are people that for whatever reason will buy an expensive sd card just to download switch games for free. I would bring up using a hard drive but I can't really say using a dock alone will somehow give the switch a possible way for using one of those but I could be wrong.

Well, if you want free games but still support Nintendo, I think Nintendo is selling MicroSD card for switch ;)

Is the Switch the fastest hacked device in history already?
Everyone is pouring so much effort poor Nintendo doesn't have a chance!

it might as well be but it really doesn't matter much.
of course its impossible to release an impenetrable piece of hardware.but they're creeping in on it being unhackable while much of the early switch stock is long gone from most big places and updated.
unlike with the ds where everyone and their grandmother played games for free and unlike with the 3ds, where a whole bunch did that, the switch will probably end up with a comparably good hacked to non-hacked ratio

it wasn't though. living in these forums, its easy to get the feeling that 9 out of 10 consoles are hacked, but in reality, thats so far from the truth. really, the mainstream wii user probably doesn't even know that you could hack it and get free games.

haha you just reminded me my mom (who is also a grandmother), I bought her a dsiXL for her birthday few years ago (her old one broke)
She's still playing a lot on it...
majjong, card games, a bit of tetris.. you know ;)

Times are a-changin', luv. If you want a quality service (which, let's not pretend Nintendo online EVER has been), you're going to have to pay for it. Plus, if you can't afford to spare ~$1.67 per month to pay for the online, there's bigger underlying issues there...

Best response I've had yet on the matter, but the facts are nintendos online is and has been free, as was ps3 and that had message & chat support and Nintendos monthly free games are gonna stink. $1.67 a month isn't the point and I swear the people arguing against free online must work for tendo. I sometimes take months at a time not playing Nintendo, then when I do the online is there as it should be.
Some dude runs wiimmfi from his bedroom, Nintendo doesn't need to charge for online. They will always be the weakest console and have their big 3 or 4 titles, nothing worthy of a subscription fee

@Wiimm What's your hardware/software setup for Wiimmfi WFC emulation look like (broadly speaking, of course)?

Edit: Also, @|<roni&g, something you need to realize is that Wiimmfi is a service that, currently, at any given time really only has around 6000 people globally using it per day. Right at this moment there are all of *checks wiimmfi.de for statistics* only 351 people online at once right now

Windows CE isn't built into the system. Games that use it have 0WINCEOS.BIN instead of 1ST_READ.BIN.

The good old days, when firmware/os updates were basically on the 'disc' booting into the system, when the stock firmware on the console itself never changed and was not updated/patched via the company online.

Re fastest device to be hacked.
So many of you seem to have forgotten or never learned the history of the site's namesake.
21st March 2001. GBA hits Japan.
First GBA emulator release, not specifically known at time of writing but here is a op ed from 22nd March 2001
https://www.zophar.net/news-archive/gba-emulation-1192.html
and an archive link to the site referenced
https://web.archive.org/web/20010404030040/http://igba.multimania.com/
By the time it made it to North America and Europe in June of the same year things were pretty good with the likes of https://web.archive.org/web/20010611090148/http://www.komkon.org:80/fms/VGBA/VGBA.html and https://www.zophar.net/news-archive/boycottadvance-0.19b-1768.html , and then VBA hit a month or two later and rest was history.

Oh and
https://www.wired.com/2001/12/flash-advance-linker-and-card/
I do have a better link but part of the network still has current PC cracks so better not.

GameBoy Advance
has been expanded with support for the GameBoy Advance!

The Flash Advance Linker, which is available since last month, is mainly responsible for this.
Only a few months after the Japanese release of the Gameboy Advance, a company called Visoly has released the first GBA backup unit called the Flash Advance Linker. This backup device is very similar to the GBXchanger which was made by Bung Enterprises to play GameBoy games.

Rumors indicate that Bung (or the remains of it) is responsible for the development and production. In 1999 Bung was forced to stop selling backup devices after they lost a lawsuit filed against them by Nintendo.

The Flash Advance Linker connects, like the GBXchanger, to the parallel port of a PC to send & receive game ROM data from or to the plugged in game or flash cartridge.

Currently there are 2 backup devices available:

Flash Advance 64M Card - sells for about US$ 109
Flash Advance 128M Card - sells for about US$ 159

Both devices are available at Lik Sang.

Flash Advance Linker
[which reminds me I should probably include the bung case in the list of notable legal events]

Do we have to do this one again?

Anyway I would argue the opposite.
Plenty of online services doing games available for free, and have been for years.
You give the general public the means to run a server and then do a trivial matchmaking system and you don't even have to worry about your incompetent devs (as you say it has never been good, despite over a decade now of them having such a service) being unable to do p2p.

How'd they obtain these? Bruteforce?
I very much doubt it is brute forced.
Two main choices.
1) Despite what people giving presentations at C3 like to claim there are people that know how to hack things and don't mind some theoretical devs getting their work copied. They then either hack by themselves or use what is known to replicate the hacks and dump it themslves.
2) If not the people giving C3 presentations then people they work closely with getting the word out (or outright being in the relevant circles) to groups like this.

Still, someone is maintaining the best original wii multiplayer games from their house, you think Nintendo can't afford to maintain it for the user free of charge? Insane if you think they're not just doing it because the other 2 companies are (fraction of the price doesn't matter). Sony and Xbox have far more multiplayer games to choose from than nintendo ever will to warrant any kind of subscription.
Free multiplayer from Nintendo is another nail in the coffin of gaming as we knew it, with loot boxes, on disc dlc, and all the memberships required it should messing it all up.
Too bad I suppose, sheep won't stand up for themselves and fight against being charged for something that is free anyway

@Wiimm What's your hardware/software setup for Wiimmfi WFC emulation look like (broadly speaking, of course)?

Wiimmfi shares its hardware with wii-homebrew. com. It runs a "Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1246 v3 @ 3.50GHz". Some servers (MASTER+MS, NATNEG, JOB, SV) are written in C, others (GPCM, GPSP) in php. For 200 clients the CPU load is less than 3% of a single CPU. Memory is a more critical resource. Each client runs 1 GPCM (php) process and each has an RSS size of 25MB.

Seeing master keys being released makes my heart skip beats. I mean like 2 to 10 beats apart. :yayps3: *remembers the good ps3 days* :yayps3:

Anyway. This is back to back whack to nintendo by the homebrew scene. Like what we always expect, with great sales, comes great responsibility. /s:huh::rofl2:

It's a common misconception. The Dreamcast wasn't hacked and it didn't have piracy for quite some time. The rips most people run were actually based off of an unused feature that the system had, Mil-CD. Running a 1:1 DC game would result in failure. The console released in late 1998 but the scene wasn't a thing until mid 2000 IIRC and that's around the time piracy was achieved. Now the Sega CD was a different story. All you needed was to do a 1:1 rip and you could backup pretty much anything.

Sorry for ranting

Yeah, you cannot make a 1:1 backup from a retail game. The game must be ripped to ISO then patched, then burnt to CDR. I think if you did burn the game to a Blank Dreamcast CDI disc, it would work without patching the game, but im sure to sure since its been a very long time since I messed around with Dreamcast Modding. But if that is true, wasn't it very hard to get your hands on Official Dreamcast CDI Discs or something like that? I don't know, I forget.

What I do remember is that 1:1 copies never worked, the ISO must be patched then burnt to CDR for it to load in the Dreamcast without any mod on the Dreamcast.
