Jesus... I never understood the use for LocalFriendCodeSeeds. If you're banned, you clearly did something wrong and rightfully deserve it. For example, let's say I get banned in Mario Kart for using item hacks or speed hacks. I clearly used hacks, so Nintendo is in the right to ban me. Attempting to circumvent said ban is just going to lead to me being banned again. I've never broken any sort of rule and so, I haven't needed to inject a new LFCS.

Nintendo has the right to ban you an for such a thing as small as having CFW because you're violating a part of the ToS you agreed to when you set up the system.

On the topic of bans because of homebrew and CFW... Perhaps Nintendo has a spy on the scene who is under the cover of a shitposter and has the ban hammer at the ready for anyone using homebrew or CFW... I'm looking at you, @Dionicio3. /s

Um, congratulations? Thank you for sharing? You deserve an award for being such an upstanding citizen? Oh no, we have seen the error of our ways, thank you for sharing your wisdom on how not to get banned in the first place?

Sorry, I'm just not sure what response you were looking for there.

In the meantime, the use for LocalFriendCodeSeed injection should be obvious: people don't want to be banned. Injecting these can unban us. Sure, the public seeds will inevitably get banned, but then another one will take its place, and banned players can resume. And to the best of our knowledge, private seeds could last indefinitely, barring some yet unrevealed method of detection.

My o3ds was hit in the so-called "banwave" a couple months back. I have used LFCS injection to circumvent it. Am I entitled to Nintendo's online services? Nope. Do I have an unconditional right to play my games online? Absolutely not. As far as I am concerned, Nintendo acted completely correctly in banning my system, as even though I use it for purposes I view as innocuous (ROM hacks, custom themes, save backups, etc., never cheating online or even trading/battling with hacked Pokemon), I knew the rules against 3DS hacking, and I knowingly broke them. Revoking my access was the correct course of action.

I didn't unban my system because I thought I was banned unjustly. I unbanned my system because I could, because I wanted to, and because I could get away with it. I did it because even thought I'm not following the rules, I'm also not hurting anyone or disrupting anyone's online experience; in other words, unbanning myself is not harming anyone else.

And I did it because I couldn't access the Pokemon Bank otherwise.

Well stated. I was just stating my opinion. To be honest, I'm lucky I haven't been banned for using CFW.

Fair enough; I would advise turning off telemetry (via Spotpass) if you haven't done so already. As best as anyone can tell, they didn't ban on the basis of CFW, or even piracy: they banned on the presence of homebrew installed via .CIAs. If they get folks like us with some other way, then so it goes. We will have to figure out how to deal with it, whether we can unban ourselves, or whether we are prevented from doing so.

I haven't done so and don't plan to. I live life on the edge.

I don't understand how people are being banned. Never agree to share any information with Nintendo no matter how nice and friendly the characters sound. There's only one reason Nintendo wants to see your personal information and that is to make sure you're 100% legit. Avoid drawing attention to yourself by keeping a low profile. Do not do anything that could get you suspended, banned, etc. If you break the rules such as cheating online then you deserve a ban.

Because there is probably someone who used a LFCS without disabling spotpass . Thus every people that used the same LFCS are banned .

To be fair, the telemetry was almost certainly never meant to be used as an anti-piracy measure, simply by virtue of the fact that it took them years to leverage the feature to sniff out rapscallions like us. Heck, there's good reason to believe that they didn't think their system would be as thoroughly hacked as it is today, given how they designed their security system. Rather, the telemetry was almost certainly meant for marketing purposes. Get an idea of what people are playing, when, and for how long, attempt more targeted advertising based on a person's interest, that sort of thing.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.
