Atari to start game show

The iconic gaming company seems to be broadening its vision of gaming. Atari is reportedly "looking to become a global TV player".

Robert Blagman, CEO of Media Fusion, who’s been contracted to manage Atari’s TV programming for global distribution and syndication, told attendees that the gaming giant’s first TV series, “Game On,” which is currently in development, is looking to shoot in South Africa.

Talks are underway with local production companies for the unscripted reality game show, which will feature players navigating life-sized sets of popular Atari games.

The announcement underscores the belief of Atari execs that South Africa represents “an incredible area of opportunity,” according to Blagman, with the company hoping to use the country as a production base for other programs as well.

The Atari-Media Fusion partnership seems to be very optimistic about the chosen South African market, probably testing the targeted demography before a more global approach.

It seems like a lot of players in the gaming community are leaning towards a media-centered approach with Twitch, the recent "Live with Youtube Gaming" and now Atari joining in a similar fashion.

I actually thought Atari went out of business. Well, that game show better have an E.T. competition. The winner gets a bag filled with E.T. Atari 2600 cartridges, because they're very valuable.
They actually found a bunch of E.T. cartridges buried in a landfill in a nearby town. It was awesome AND stinky!

But let's not get carried away, we just need to wait and see right? how bad can it be honestly?
I think you underestimate what a company will do to pander to kids to get a quick buck.

I didn't know ATARI was still around. Good luck with this.

Well technically yes they did but the Atari today is actually Infogrames. They owned the rights to the brand name so they eventually rebranded themselves as Atari.

Another competition they can do is a level out of Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales for Atari Jaguar. The winner gets the Bubsy show pilot on Ultra HD Blu-ray, never before released, exclusive to the prize winner. Also Bubsy 3D HD Remaster for the PS4.
