Radiotext is cyberpunk hacking RPG from solo developer Alp Arslan. Ahead of its launch later this month, the developer has shared some details about the game's design and cast.

You're handed a USB stick by a stranger in a quiet alley. Inside is Radiotext, a long-abandoned 90s communication network. As a newcomer, you'll talk your way through forgotten channels and the lives left behind, some friendly, some broken, some not even alive, and uncover a cyber activist uprising against corporate overlords fought entirely over these airwaves. Will you join them?

Radiotext's design choices:
  • Although it looks 3D, Radiotext actually runs in 2D, keeping the game's size, RAM, and VRAM allocation to around 200MB, even at 4K with realistic environments.
  • It's built with modding in mind, the demo and full game includes a modding guide, letting players quickly create their own stories, NPCs, and puzzles.
  • Similar to the asynchronous multiplayer notes in Dark Souls and Death Stranding, Radiotext features an in-game social media platform similar to X, where players can post and see other players' messages mixed in with NPC messages.
Some of the game's cast include:
  • Sky: Sky is the leader of The Syndicate, a fierce group of cyber activists trying to make a change and honor Cypherpunks who paved the way before them.
  • chrome: A name whispered across the band, a legendary hacker said to operate deep in the radio noise floor. chrome is a lone wolf, the most skilled Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics (ICE) breaker within the radio waves. Corporations fear him and try to avoid his path. After feeling exploited by cyber activist groups in the past, he decided to start working solo. As much as he is praised by the users of Radiotext, they say that one day he will melt his waxwings overclocking this close to the sun.
  • RumoR: If you have the gossip to sell, she's looking to buy. RumoR is a hungry spider, standing in the middle of a web of gossip streams, flowing directly to feed her. When people are in need of information, she is the provider. And although the spider serves the first one for free, to learn a story from her, you first need to tell one.
  • Radioman: A soul shattered and scattered around the globe, heard amongst the radio static. Radioman is a dead scientist living as a worn consciousness within an old hard drive. To prove his life's work, with the help of his colleagues he turned his consciousness into data in order to stream it as radio waves. If he can manage to trap the stream in the Schumann resonances, he believes humanity can transcend out of their bodies to exist as sole consciousness in the form of radio waves.
  • Flynn: Right Hand of the Syndicate. As a young teen, after getting caught while disabling the tracking features of the user-tech for money, his talent was noticed by Sky and he was recruited into the Syndicate. Whenever there is a technical challenge that needs to be overcome, he is the one to connect.
Key features of Radiotext include:
  • Retro Interface: Old terminal aesthetic, typing mechanic, authentic sound effects
  • Unique Voices: A unique cast of characters, each with a story worth unraveling
  • Branching Paths: Choices ripple across conversations, choose your words wisely
  • Customizable UI: Colors, node placement, make the terminal your own
  • Hidden Choices: Not every option is in plain sight
  • Short & Sharp: A complete story in 3-4 hours
  • Multiple Endings: The network never plays out the same way twice
  • The Network Never Sleeps: The story ends. The network doesn't, keep exploring, you don't know what you'll find
Radiotext is set to release September 28th. A free demo is available now on Steam.
