It was noted that the shift to HD made various "models" rather less alluring and thus forced greater makeup, more attractive people (be it by replacement or exercise regime), more choice shots, more effective lighting (wash out, cast in shadow, diminish tonal differences... all the usual tricks employed for decades otherwise), more/better prep (spots, track marks, strays and stubble do rather appear in greater detail after all), more exotic scenes, and may have also helped along the amateur boom where by cost alone they might still be limited to lesser gear that inherently sees such things happen.
