are the Wars games prior to the Advance Wars games good?

There was a similar thread around here in the not too distant. Famicom Wars and Gameboy Wars are the most well known outside Japan, though that is also more likely because they have been translated where the SNES effort is fairly advanced but was still pending last I looked.

Anyway yeah they are good/figure there is a reason they sold so well in Japan. They tended to add more units, abilities and things to consider as games go on (compare say the first GBA one to the last DS one in differences) with the end result meaning the earlier ones are often a bit simpler than later ones.
