not sure if this is the right area for this or not so if a mod feels it should be elsewhere please move it.
I recently started looking around for game hacks and more specifically N64 ones. I came across a few super mario 64 ones but they are .ppf and I not sure what to do with them. do I need a patch tool(like xdelta)? or do I need a game specific patcher?

ppf= playstation patching format.
It got popular during the playstation when older patching formats had their limitations become apparent.

However, like it seems most patching formats seem to suffer, there are a bunch of versions/takes on the concept so you might have to try one or two different ones to get one that works for you.
http://www.romhacking.net/?page=uti...vel=&perpage=20&title=&desc=ppf&utilsearch=Go has a whole bunch, don't know what version the N64 peeps were mainly using (and that might have varied between done at the and done today) but hopefully any readmes for the hack give you an idea.

turns out one of the hacks had a patcher with it(ppf-omatic) I successfully patched 1 hack and tested it. I tried 3 other hacks with no success. The first one I did required the rom to be expanded, is this the case for other hacks in ppf format?

Sounds about right for PPF patchers.

As for expansion... will vary by patch, hacker and whatever else. Some will, some won't, if you want to stack patches together you might have to do multiple formats and conversions all down the line.

Having a bunch of different storage types, formats, headers and whatever else does make applying hacks as patches somewhat annoying.

I decided to try expanding the rom and then applying the ppf patch 1 of the 3 hacks is now working. i still have 3 that aren't working. if someone else could look up these hacks:
SM64 StarRevenge v1
SM64-Twisted_Adventures
Super Mario-The Power Star Journey
and try patching them I just want to verify if the patches are working correctly or not. I have been testing on pj64.
