would this at all be possible..

if a virgin 4.0 box was to connect a usb lan adapter/wifi to a fake nintendo server app on PC to say a 4.1 update is available would it be possible to do a downgrade or install an exploit this way??

has anyone captured the data packets the wii received when updating system firmware via a usb lan adapter... could the data being captured be used to create a fake nintendo update server.. im kind thinking on the lines on Quickpwn for the iphone/ipod.. allowing it to do what itunes does when it updates but install exploited files when installing the firmware..

to far fetched or already discussed or just not possible you reckon?? any thoughts..??

You mean something like what the psp does with CFW.
You dont have to download any new files to install just select network update on the psp menu and it installs the latest cfw.

the thing with the psp cfw is that dark-alex patched those files to make them connect to his own private server. so if you have a virgin wii you have to patch so it is redirected to a different server than nintendos. then you can do what ever you want.

Kinda like the chicken or the egg problem. One would have to get the exploit in the Wii first, before it can be patched to connected to a fake server.

That's not really the problem. I don't know how to do it exactly, but you can configure some routers to redirect all calls of nintedo's pages to other pages.

I think the problem is that, at least the 4.0 firmware has the trucha bug fixed completely(ok maybe not, did nintedo long enough to fix the known holes). So you could send it a fake 4.1 update, the wii starts to install it and then recognizes that the signature isn't correct and stop.

QUOTE(jacklaidlaw @ Apr 13 2009, 04:10 PM) you could get it to redirect to a fake server easily just edit your hosts file but getting it to authenticate the server would be another problem

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't any authentication at all. You can download all update files with everything that is able to download files, but the only official method is to directly download with your wii.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
