Is there anything that the PS3 Slim can do that the Phat can't? I know on the PSP, the Slim has several extra features due to the extra RAM and NAND space. Is that an issue with the PS3, or will they just use the hard drive?

That Sony Bravia thing and it supports 7.1 channel surround sound, and I believe it also transcodes network data better when streaming- but don't quote me on that last one.

Yeah. Features exclusive to the slim: Doesn't install Linux, has no power switch in the back.
And features shared with the gimped Phat PS3s: Doesn't play PS2 games, 2 USB ports, and no memory card readers.

That Slim is a great deal!

Slim has extra RAM? I missed that gem - what is it now?
The PSP Slim has extra RAM (64MB as opposed to 32MB). While it is only supposed to be used as disk cache, it can be used by homebrew such as the hacked Netfront browser, Exult (Ultima 7), and the PSPStates plugin. In fact, to use savestates on the PSP requires the extra RAM, and Exult crashes like crazy without it.

also way more energy efficent and not nearly as huge, Plus a few more things mentioned above. So unless you want to mod your PS3 with Linux, the Slim is the best option. Otherwise the only real notible difference between the two is the Fat can install Linux.

Please dont bring PSP into a PS3 topic.
