It shouldn't really, but as I said, in many cases it oozes ignorance, and I hate ignorance.

TBH I think you're being ignorant here. People calling anime cartoons doesn't ooze any sort of ignorance in any way, shape or form. So what if they call it cartoons? Any form of animation is a cartoon, whether it be from Japan or America.

I edited my post. Anyway, as I said, if it bothers me I will speak up, I won't put restrictions on myself because others self nothing wrong with it.

edit: i see what you're talking about...only...an animated cartoon is still a cartoon...animated is an adjective...

and your example is silly. animation =/= cartoon. we can agree there...if that's what you're getting at. you example of animation is no different than film strip. multiple images playing in succession to simulate movement. as I pointed out earlier, my initial statement was that anime are cartoons just as gargoyles was a cartoon...

Please explain how its wrong. People keep saying "they're different," but nobody has actually explained the difference between them. If there is such a distinct difference it should be very easy for you to point it out.

in my opinion, anime are simply Japanese cartoons and the stuff you see on Cartoon Network and on Saturday morning are American cartoons... The only distiction being the country of origin.

correct me if I'm wrong, but your opinion is that anime is it's own separate entity. completely apart from any other form of drawn animation and more focused on mature themes and story progression.

maybe i just don't take all of it as seriously.

You know what, after this discussion I have realized something. I don't hate it when people call anime cartoons, it doesn't bother me that much. You guys aren't annoying me by saying this in the slightest, you all have you're reasons and preferences. It's not the statement alone that pisses me off, and it's not ignorance in this case, it's people who explain why they think that with really stupid logic. That's it. It's when people go an extra step to explain why, and their reasons are really f**cking stupid and in some cases ignorant, those are the types of things I hate.

I'm not talking about you, I'm being general.

Though I am the type of person that will correct someone depending on the subject matter (like someone who calls an ape a "monkey"). Though it depends, and depending on the situation, place, or person the chance of me doing it will vary.

Anime is an animated cartoon. We tend to drop the animated part and just call it a cartoon as it being animated has no relevance to it being a cartoon or not. Before animated cartoons, people read comic strips, which are cartoons, in newspapers and magazines.

Yes that was an animation, but the Japanese would not call that anime. When English words are integrated into Japanese they don't always keep their complete English meaning. Somebody before mentioned how the word mansion is used in Japan to refer to apartment buildings instead of what we call a mansion. In Japan they would call what you posted a video, not anime.
