ROM Hack Animal Crossing: Wild World cheats

I tried the Item 1/Item 2 slot code modifiers for Animal Crossing: Wild World and neither seem to work. Any ideas as to how to get them to work? Did I not press in the right combination of buttons? I know with some codes you have to press L+R, so any help as to why they won't work would help.

PS. I am playing using the AK2i and I am using the latest updates. I hope that this helps. I don't think I downloaded the 1.1 ROM, just the basic SCZ version.

edit: I am such a putz. They only work for player 1.
