I simply want to be able to shut the switch off completely while on the move. I do not want to have to find a injector or connect to computer. Am I forced to rely on a hard wired modchip?
Can I just overwrite the nand OS entirely to load atmosphere or Kosmos and not even need RCM mode? It has been a long time and I thought somebody would have done it already.
And all I want to do is completely power off to reduce wear and tear, and I have to resort the soldering a hard mod? What the heck!

If it were possible to just overwrite nand OS and load atmosphere without RCM, don't you think we'd already be doing it? You need to use RCM, whether it be with your phone, an injector, or a mod chip. No other way around it right now.

Like it really isn't that much of a hassle to carry around a small rcmloader dongle or a small cable for your phone.

Your option is a modchip if you don't want to carry a payload dongle, or a phone around to push the payload, there are people that can fit a chip for you if you want to.

Sleep mode is fine. 6 hours in sleep mode loses only 1% of battery. I hated the idea of jigs and dongles as well (which aren't 'wired' btw). But how often do you reboot your phone? If you're like most it probably sits on a charger, while powered on, when not being used. Same idea with the Switch in its dock. And on that day when you're hiking in the Himalayas, bringing a *wireless* jig and dongle isn't a big deal. ;)

A suggestion for you, you can use an app called easypower “AppStore has it” this will let your switch power down, then when you want to use it again just insert your dongle and this will power your switch directly up into cfw this also saves a lot of battery, not completely because it’s still in rcm but 100times better, it’s always a good option this is what I use all the time to save on wear & tear like you mentioned it works very well at least it does power your switch down in a sort of a way looks the part regardless.

if you have the proper tools and soldering skills, installing a chip isn't that bad. I installed a trinket m0 in both of my switches, and I'm far from an expert.

Harumph I say! That's ridiculous that I would have to solder just to fully power down. I think I am going to start a new hobby of just completely overwriting the sysnand with a new custom firmware. All of this just so I can completely eliminate the small heat generated from sleep mode. MY GOSH!

@SylverReZ, I dislike the kind of drm where you have to play single player games online all the time bc of some verification bs

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

Either that or their old games were unfinished aswell but we can't notice it

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
