The R4ultra will not work with this version, nor will the R4 Ultra version be updated (last I read)
QUOTE(Etalon @ Jan 1 2011, 10:06 AM) On AK2i, your globalsettings.ini might get reset (or deleted, don't know) after changing a skin or choosing "Back to firmware" on Moonshell 2.10 Child Zwai.

Sometimes it just freezes, sometimes your globalsettings.ini are reset, sometimes the "Slot 2" button shows up (although using a DSi).

I really won't recommend it now.
I did not know that problem, thanks for tell me

Akaio Classic does not work on R4 Ultra.

You need Akaio Ultra. It's available at the Ultra webpage.

We don't know if there'll be any version 1.8.2 or higher of Akaio Ultra.

hmmz, since i like being a guinea pig i searched and found it on google
no problem so far on my acerkard 2i, i launched few games to verify, even rebooted the ds
card was already up to date with firmware 1.4.1

I also like to be a kindof guinea pig, thus I downloaded it from a japanese website (and left a comment in their page for them to understand that the version can brick some cards in some situations) and tested it (as a small report for Normmatt and AKAIO team).
I experienced the same as keyra. I have an acekard 2i, and tested it with some games. Nothing awkward happened.
I changed some of the global settings (specifically changed Language, Theme (Skin) and disabled global AAP, just for kicks) and I didn't have that problem of any changes not getting saved.
Finally, I tried some homebrew (mainly NDS_TGM (20080815), 3DViewerDS (ver 0.1) and msxDS (v0.88)). I had no problems with those.
I kind of got suspicious about how smoothly everything was going (I was expecting at least the globalsettings.ini problem), so I formatted my µSD and returned to relative safety with 1.8.1, until the new release gets done.

Thus, here is a suicide disclaimer: Please, don't take any of the reports here as an assurance that you're in the safe spot and download it. I might have not gone through a specific procedure which activates any of the problems already reported. Let's be patient and hope for the AKAIO team to resolve those problems.
Nevertheless, thanks as always to the AKAIO team.

EDIT #1: I figured I should write which settings I changed and which versions of those homebrews I ran.

Oh. I tested it on a Ak2i 1.4.1 & DSi XL 1.4.1 & 8 GB SanDisc (fresh formattet with Panasonic).

I also noticed that the blue "Loading" screen seems to change the colour in a split second.

AKAIO 1.8.1 for the ultra was a one-off build, it is not planned to get any more updates.

You will have to wait for the official firmware to get updated, and when move to that.

There's one thing I really don't understand: Why is it such a big deal and somehow impossible to release the 1.8.2 loaders for 1.8.1 now?

Kids won't need to search for 1.8.2 anymore, and the development team would have much less pressure on their shoulders.

I have a friend that was so paranoid about bricking his card with a rogue rom that he shut off his DS during one of those save data preparation messages being displayed with a newly downloaded rom, bricking his Acekard 2. Fortunately for him, I had an extra 2i available.

I tried to see if it was possible to unbrick an AK2 but couldn't find anything. At least I know why I couldn't find anything now. I will be interested in seeing the results of this mishap.

Does the loaders alone brick the card? I have the AKAIO 1.8.2 here in my PC.
if you have an acekard2i
then you wont have any brick on your cart

read this post from Normmatt
From Akaio.net Post by NormmattThank you for the report, as you might be aware I pulled the download as soon as i saw this report. I have been investigating this and have concluded the new AAP was responsible and I have taken steps to make sure that the next release wont be able to cause bricking. This only happens on some older AK2's and for those affected I will look into making an unbricker which will require a second flashcart to boot and you just swap carts and it will rewrite the bootloader (possibly a newer one than was originally on there). There is no time frame on when or if this unbricker will happen but I will keep this thread updated on the progress.

Sorry about this, Me nor any of the beta testers seem to have such an old AK2 any longer which meant we couldn't catch this error before it was released.

so as far as i know ppl wont have problem running it on a ak2i
if it does brick - you can reflash it

If you put the 1.8.2 loaders on 1.8.1 then mismatched loaders (1.8.2 loaders on 1.8.1 base) will cause all games to not boot but is reversible by simply reinstalling AKAIO 1.8.1 without updating loaders at all.

This thread has only 8 pages. It's possible to read them before giving advice to people.

How many confirmed reports of bricking have there been so far?
One, including the one in the first post. The download link was removed before further damage was inflicted. Any bricks after the link was removed is due to people's own stupidity because the warning was released and they must now wait for Normmatt's unbricking tool.
