The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct recap, Ocarina of Time remake release date revealed

After being announced last week, the first of two broadcasts is set to go live later today with a stark focus on The Legend of Zelda and its 40th anniversary celebrations. According to a tweet from the Japanese Nintendo account, we'll be seeing more details on the Ocarina of Time remake, alongside various bits of non-gaming media. This most likely hints at a bit more information on the upcoming movie, but could potentially be more.

With me working through the presentation itself, I figured I'd get a thread up early to give you folks a place to discuss, with the intent to update it when I get home with all the key bits of information. Is there anything you're hoping to see? Any particular wants for the upcoming remake? Let us know your thoughts.

I better play the whole rest of the series before April 30th

Other than particular issues with the announcement (plastic grass in OoT remake, no game in special edition, etc.), credit where credit's due, this is huge for an anniversary celebration, not forgetting the beautiful opening arrangement to top it off. Playing an actual ocarina to control the game is so cool!

Also, it's annoying how the Zelda Notes QR code is unreadable, it would have been nice to know if it's possible to encode/decode arrangements without the application.

I wasn't aware of the load times, but the field is one I was waiting for some kind of confirmation

It looks like it's the same (grass effects are brilliant though), a barren wasteland. The town wasn't too heavily populated, which could go either way

Not too long to wait, but I really hope they've done it justice and this was just a little tease, but much more to it. I wasn't impressed in the slightest with this personally

Graphically, I'll be generous and not let my misgivings about the style get in the way of the fact that it does truly look like the next generation after the Switch, technologically. THIS is what people paid for, in that sense.

But yeah, the only reason this wasn't announced alongside a NEW 3D Zelda game in the classic dungeon style is that they've become complacent with a fanbase illiterate about gaming history. This counts as a new game to them.

I don't expect the field to be better than we saw if they take time out of the direct to explain Navi as if she's a bold new addition that everyone will love, and not a literal proxy for bad game design we've been complaining about for 30 years.

If there was also a new game for me, the longtime series fan, I wouldn't take time to complain about a remake. But since this IS "the new Zelda," it deserves to be trashed whenever and however people want.
