i am about to buy an ak2 from DX so here's hoping it's not a bad one. is there any way u can find out if u have a bad card or not BEFORE it decides to give u the errors? it's really dumb to not know you have a faulty cart and rely on it a lot wherever you go just to have it break after 1 month. This bad batch problem has really made me lose respect in the AK team. People can't be safe and rely on them for purchasing a safe and effective product. This is ridiculous, the first thing a company should do is make sure their product works before selling it.
a few of my friends and myself just got the black pcb 2.1 from deal extreme a few weeks ago. about 5 in total
well how were they?

no there is no way to tell until you boot it up and get an error. the 2.1's are all fixed, they assured me of it personally. there is still the chance of a faulty kit but for DOA or other reasons not associated with the bad batch. almost every kit has those issues, lets not forget that the first few months of the cyclo were all DOA but no one seems to remember that. team acekard had an issue with the factory that was making the ak2. it was not a problem they were aware of when it happened. if you have a bad kit and can't get it replaced, they will replace it. that right there should help to gain back their respect. they are very receptive to the issue and very kind and quick to answer e-mail.

it seems DX is shipping both the green pcb and black pcb. you shouldn't have issues with either. the green has been fixed and they have an extra part on the pcb that was used for debugging. i forget what it did exactly, i just remember team acekard mentioned it to me. the black pcb has been redesigned after the fixes were figured out on the green. honestly i like my green 2.1 better. it slides in smoother with less of a loud obtrusive "click" and the spring for the msd is a lot more responsive.

all acekards have a 1 year warranty. if your retailer won't replace it, the team will. i haven't heard of another kit that has a warranty like that.

happy gaming!

they work great, but the sticker on one of them wasn't put on well.

My AK2 (green PCB + reader, arrived today from DX) keeps locking up in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Is this also symptomatic of the bad batch or might the issue lie elsewhere? My microsd is a Japanese Toshiba 1GB and I've had zero issues with it on my R4, including Ecclesia.

Is the AK2.1 worth getting then? A friend of mine is wanting one, and I don't want to hand him something that will break in 3-4 months then I'll have to deal with it.

The cards around the same price on the site I'm looking at are NDSTT, EDGE and iTouch. Would I be safer looking at one of those? I've been out of the loop for a while (I have a R4 from back when they first came out, still works like a charm) so I'm off to go read a few reviews.

There have been no problems except for the one above, which I don't think is due to a faulty card, but possible something else.

AK2 is a lot better than any of the cards of a similar price.

Seconded. I have 3 AK´s here: one AK2 and two AK2.1 - i had no problems with any of these cards at all. IMO the AK2.1 is the best lowcost Flascard available...

Yeah, anyone reading the first post should just disregard that info. It is kind of old news, as the picture posted there is a pile of AK2, before Acekard redesigned the card to AK2.1.

It's not old news to the (potentially) thousands who supported the company by buying the 2.0 product, and who still own them.

I bought 5 AK2.1's with black pcb from Dealextreme.
4 are working fine. 1 is not recognized by my DS....

Anyone knows a way to fix this or has had a similar experience?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of a slight flaw in the alignment of the cart. I've had various carts that needed to be 'padded' with tape or sticky notes to make a good connection or else they would fail to be seen or lock up.

On which side of the cart or pcb do you apply the tape?

My guess would be the current sticker side (to 'push' the gold contacts down as it is in the DS) but seeing the shells on these carts is below-average, it could be a case of trial-and-error.

I just received my second AceKard and as I look into the MicroSD hole I see the 'metal cage' for the MicroSD is misaligned (one side higher than the other), which is why my MicroSD was not going in smoothly. Might be worth a look, too. But if it's not being detected at all, I doubt it's the microSD slot.

I bought it from kickgaming so i think i should contact them first, i dont think i should try to get a replacement ak2, but an EDGE. the problem is still out there, or maybe i was just given an old card. any ideas guys? i realy dont know what i should do.
Your unit has a 2.1 sticker on the flashcard? If not, it's one from old ones that may be from a bad batch.
The best action is to try to change the flashcard if you are given the chance, if they don't offer a chance to exchange cards, only take a new AK2 if they have 2.1 stickers on them and if possible, black PCB.

I am extremely late, but I have gotten my Acekard replaced with an EDGE. Kickgaming does get my approval

just to say that even ak2 2.1 is starting to have defects, rate is still low, 1 of 100 .
but surely defective cards exist

1% still seems a bit high. That's like saying for every 10,000 cars Ford makes, 100 will be defective.

Oh wait...

Zing!!!

I suppose for the cost 1 in 100 is reasonable, but if you order from DealExtreme you might as well just buy a new card all together because I can't imagine what shipping it back to China would cost, not to mention the time it takes for them to ship a new one back.

In those cases you can email AceKard team directly =)

Question: I just got my Acekard 2.1 today. It's green pcb, but it says ver 2.1 in blue writing on the cart itself. Does that mean I should be alright?
