I didn't say the CycloDS is bad... I just think that it's overhyped as being the best card and that IF I just had given myself 2 hours more on the internet I probably wouldn't have bought it and would have bought the AceKard RPG as being
- really 100% compatible (with no slowdowns/freezing thanks to internal memory)
- slightly more fun because of the opensource thing
- and more....
100% compatible? Haha - try telling us that after you've tried games such as "Daigasso! Band Brothers DX" on AKRPG - won't run properly, unlike with most other flash cards (due to the new save size). I can see why the open source thing could be "slightly more fun" if you were a developer, but most people do not fit into that category. And more... such as?

While there is a lot of hype surrounding CycloDS, it still really is the best of the flash carts right now. The only real advantage that AKRPG has over it is the onboard flash, which is only really helpful with about 2 games from the thousands of NDS roms available. Also the open source stuff can be a double edged sword, because in the case of Acekard it seems as though the intention of the company was to release the source and then let the community develop the software while they sit back and collect the money. The Acekard team really should be working on features such as realtime save, Wii connectivity, ingame guide etc but I wouldn't hold your breath...

I'd like to see an unbiased side by side comparison with the cycloDS text reader and the Supercard one when 1.5 is finalised.

I don't blame CycloDS and it probably delivers just that what the majority wants (as R4 did not so long ago).... I know that the ARPG also has it's problems and perhaps hasn't all the nice features (although the latest loaders do a good job) but it seems to have just that what I am looking for.

Probably I will sell my R4 and keep the CyclosDS ....but AceKard RPG will be ordered (as soon as I can finc the money :-) )

So you are switching to a card with less features because it supports two more games?
You're weird dude.

And then you'll be on the Acekard board complaining about it. Have fun.

QUOTENo i know where he is talking about in Tony Hawk. I have a 1gb Kingston and Downhill Jam freezes for me on any flashcard.

Really? Could it be a ROM problem then? Is your ROM trimmed?
I have a 2GB Kingston Taiwan (which should be suckier) and it doesn't freeze or lag at all.

And I'd like to ask something: Are 1GB cards generally faster than 2GB? My guess at first was yes, but now it seems that the 1GB MicroSDs are more problematic.

Yeah, to hell with games, bring on the features.

pffff...well after browsing through the other (gbatemp)forums for AceKard and DSTT I guess I just stick with the CycloDS and R4.
The other cards are also not 'it'... I stand by my point that I probably wouldn't have bought the CycloDS knowing...

I just keep on hoping that someday 'the perfect flashcard' will become available.... in the meantime enjoy life...don't forget to go outside ... it's summer :-)

Sorry for all the inconvenience

No. It won't. And CycloDS Evo is more "Perfect" than Acekard RPG or 2.

Question, anyone know how smoothly kingston 2 GB taiwan runs on cyclod? B/c I tried to get a warrenty on it from dz-tech and they sent me the wrong kind. I still trying to contact them but so far, to no avail. I am considering to just use the taiwan one b/c I been waiting for like 1 month for a new SD card. Anyone know if it's much slower than the japan kingston? and if so, how much would it affect the roms on the cyclod?

I have had the cyclos for over a years now. I bought 3, one for me, my wife, and step son. We had one die (paper trick fixed it) on us, but no other problems. I have not found one game that freezes or lags. I also love the skins and cyclos support team is awesome. I have compared it to the r4 and ak, hands on and i have to say the cycvos lives up to the hype completly

Can you link to the exact webpage you bought it from? There are 2 kinds of 2GB Kingston Taiwan MicroSDs that I know of and the kind I have works perfectly (no lag on PoR or Downhill Jam).

I have been using the CycloDS for some time now, and I really believe that overall it is the best device of it's type to own to date.

I saw the Acekard in action and I do have to say that it looks great as well, but one thing really pushed me away from it. CLIPS. Yeah, a card held together by easily breakable plastic clips just makes me feel sick. Get some screws holding that thing together and I may reconsider!

Have fun patching everything before playing it.

Also have fun saying the following common phrase.

Does it work on R4!?!?!!??!?!?!?!

I have an R4 and I don't have to patch anything... there's about 2-3 games that don't work on the R4, all of which are Japan only. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking to buy a new card because the team seems to have abandoned it, but as of right now you can still play nearly any ROM that's available.

I totaly agree with the topic starter. I mean look at the awesome feature list for the r4:

-Bad download play compatibility
-Bad game compatiblilty
-zero support
-no RTS
-no slo-mo
-no in shell gba loading
-no automatio ram and rumble loading
-the same issues with POR and Tony hawk that the CycloDS has
-OS must be stored on micro SD card
-no in game brightness level modification
-no SDHC support
-no in game tet reader
-no multi save or customizable save directory

I mean, doesn't that list just pwn? I would never consider a CycloDS after reading this.

(Wow, 15 lines of sarcasm. that's a new record for me.)

Okay, no more sarcasm. Here is my honest opinion. I have had my CycloDS for some time now, and I have to say it truly is the best cart around. Yeah, compare the features to the SCDS1 all you want, but the latest beta firmware has all the supercard's features to some degree. You ask what the CycloDS has over the r4? well lets see... Features! tons of them! many of them unique. Compatibuility! Pretty much unmatched by any othe card.

Seems funny. you seem so disappointed with the product, it makes me wonder. have you updated the card to the latest firmware? if you haven't, you really should. that is all.

I currently own the R4 myself, and I would like to have bought the CycloDS instead. Why? It just seems to have so much more features and support than the R4. If I hadn't bought the R4 two days before DX started selling them for $36, I would definitely taken the Cyclo path instead.

I'm still waiting for DX to ship my CycloDS... if they ever do. They didn't hessitate to charge my credit card, even if they didn't ship the cart. Bastards.
