Hacking Acekard 2i 3DS update

The official site specifically says it can't be supported on the 3DS at the moment... Kinda hard to miss that when it's the top entry in the news setion.

I just purchased 2 AK2i (1.8.6 pre-update)cards, where is instruction to update with 3DS? =x

errrr aren't you only permitted to flash on either a DS/DSL or a DSi/DSiXL?

EDIT: Unless your box for the Ak2i says "DSi(XL) & 3DS Compatible" on the top left, I think you need another DS system and the correct .nds file to update it on.

yes this is the 1 I purchased(I think, item is in transit atm) since description had '1.8.6 pre-updated & 3DS compatible'.
1.8.6 is not same as 3DS_v1 I assume correct?
so question remains, how do I update from 1.8.6 -> 3DS_v1 using 3DS?
update file is only for other DS models. or does it not require any update since its already compatible?

Yeah but when you click on the "3DS Flashcart" tab on the left of the website, the Acekard is the first result! I went from that tab, saw that the 3DS wasn't mentioned in the item description and decided to email them and ask -I figured that if it was under the category of a 3DS flashcart there would have to be a chance that it actually was. I specifically mentioned that I only have a 3DS, and that I don't have a DSi\DS. They told me yes, that it would work (or more specific: that it would work as it was already updated and 3ds compatible). It's pretty obvious that they believed that it would work out of the box in a 3DS - either that or they were just lying to get a sale...

Anyway, the response I got from them today was:

Same goes for myself. It was only $13 and change (without shipping....) and I've had mine since Monday working just fine.

So the AceKard update on FileTrip is good to update all hardware (minues HW44) to 3DS compatibility right? I'm breaking down and getting my 3DS early (was going to wait until May update) and just want to make sure I'm going to be able to use my cart until I decided to upgrade.

Ok a lil bit confused here. I have a DSI XL and a Ak2i with the 88 id and i got a 3ds as well. If i wanted to update my AK2I to work on my 3ds could I do so on the XL or will it brick? seeing everyone keeps mentioning the DS lite to update it but no DSI or XL which is a different firmware file from the one used on the light. can anyone confirm that you can update an AK2i on a dsi xl to the 3ds firmware if its currently working on the dsi xl?

Yes you can. You basically need a platform to 'bootstrap' the firmware update process. The DS lite is mentioned frequently because that ALWAYS works. The update on the DSi/XL only work if your cart can already run on that platform (obviously a weird chicken and egg problem but it is what it is).

Ok thanks Ill give it a go, was still questioning if i should keep the aki on the dsixl and just get a dstwo for the 3ds and just have both up and running separately.

The official acekard website has updated it's front page:

Did anyone manage to get the file and test it out?

Updates:

The link to the file isn't officially out - Link is broken but unreleased file link is below
Some people are reporting 'bricking' so use at your own risk!
Others reporting that it works by deleting specific system files (See below)
Maybe problems in updating HW 44

A lot of people stating the DSi file isn't working when updating on the DSi but will work on the DS lite/phat

Possible workaround: (Some reporting this didn't work)

I foud a way to make it work:

-dl ak2ifw_update_3ds_v1.nds
-put it on the micro sd
- used my phat to launch the file and update (had no error: 100% and powered off the phat)

after that the flashcard wasn't working anymore. The icon had become the japanese weird thing and when trying to launch it i just got a black screen.

So i erased everything from the micro sd (only firmware related, not the games, including the ak2ifw_update_3ds_v1.nds) and installed the new akaio firmware.

Now it's working on my 3DS

Update 3: Team Acekard have updated their site saying they need to fix a bug in the 3DS update file

'The Oldest AK2i Can't Update Temporarily

The first type of AK2i, which has a little window in the shell of back, can't update to support 3DS temporarily. The HWID of this type of AK2i is "44". We need do more test. Please be patient. We're sorry for the inconvenience.'

What about Nintendo saying that use of a flash card will be 'remembered' by the 3DS meaning warranty void, no repairs by nintendo and the 3DS cannot be traded in - Will this bypass that?

its probable, but theres really no sure way to check
although nintendo will probably go wtf when you're playing the same ds game, but they cant do anything... theres a lot of kids that play the same exact game a lot

sure, the 3ds shows you're playing dorasu(or whatever its called) but we dont know if it records it like that or as an actual flashcart

I have over 100 hours of play on that Dorasu Kotenko game.
Checked the wiki and its apparently about a angel saving the world for shit and giggles.
one thing I care about that is that one of the characters is named Nappa

i tried to update my cards and notice some real deal...the selected file must be in some "folder",im my case i put in the "games" folder and works just fine before this my screens just frozen in the update menu,so for those who still have problems updatating this is my hint,try put the update in a diferent folder works for me in 2 acekard 2i

Errrr what?
If you're speaking of updating the AK2i for 3DS support, you shouldn't have to put it in a folder. I placed the file in the root of my card and updated just fine....

That rumour is rubbish. I used a non updated Acekard in my 3DS (just to see what would happen). Had the icon & name in the log, sent my 3DS in for repair about a week later and got a new one sent to me with no questions asked.
