Hacking Question Accidentally updated switch while in EMUMMC but it DIDN’T update OFW of the system to 9.0?

So I’m a bit confused what has happened.

I am on 8.10 and the next update would be 9.0. I was trying to start a game in EMUMMC too quick by pressing “A” and didn’t realize it asked me to “update” and I accepted the update .

I tried to stop it to no avail, then it rebooted and I was back in hekate menu. I had the option to run CFW (SYSNAND), CFW (EMUMMC) or Stock (SYSNAND), here’s a picture:


The only ones I could start were CFW (SYSNAND) and Stock (SYSNAND). When I tried to start CFW (EMUMMC) it just returned me to the hekate launch menu.

So then I started CFW (SYSNAND) and I noticed my Switch firmware said 8.1.0|MS 0.9.3|S.


When I turned of the system and went booted up the switch normally to check my firmware it stated was on 8.1.0...? I’m so confused.


Am I still on on 8.1.0 OFW Technically?

My EMUMMC shows that it’s still active and available:


So my question is, does anyone know what happened here? Was the EMUMCC only updated to 9.0 and since its not compatible with the hack it won’t start?

Is my EMUMMC salvageable? My saves if I didn’t save them via EdZion/Checkpoint?

I didn’t try putting my MicroSD card into my pc, but I’m sure I can still access my games / game saves from the partition.

Try to download the latest builds of Atmosphere (0.9.4) & Hekate (5.0.2).
0.9.3 & 5.0.1 are not compatible with 9.0.0.

Btw what happen if you try to load your emummc?

So I just download and drag/drop the newer ones into the partition and I should be able to launch my EMUMMC?

When I try to load/launch EMUMMC, it just starts loading it and immediately goes back to Hekate launch menu.

Can someone explain what happened with the update not updating OFW to 9.0? Was it because I was in EMUMMC and it saved my ass when the update happened?

Yeah that should work!
Just make sure to keep your emummc Folder and your hekate_ipl.ini from the bootloader Folder.

emummc & bootloader should both be on the Root of your SD Card. hekate_ipl.ini is inside your bootloader folder.

Out of curiosity, why do I need to make a copy my EmuMMC if I’m not deleting it on the MicroSD card?

All I’m doing is dragging and dropping Atmosphere, Hekate, Atmosphere sig patches and Hekate sigpatches onto my MicroSD card. How will that affect the EmuMMC folder and the hekate_ipl.ini file?

I don't usually comment, i actually made an account just to say thank you, you saved me after i did the same, was on emummc, updated accidentally and hekate would just restart when i tried to launch cfw emummc, dragged and dropped all files mentioned (but for fw 9.1.0) and it worked. I also wanted to ask, since i updated from nintendo i am probably banned now right? And do i need to do anything regarding sysnand still being a earlier version than emummc? Thanks again.

Hi guys ,i just made an account just somi can seek help as this is driving me nuts ,ive already modded my switch and was already being able to play games and such but then i accidentally updated my switch when inwas trying to launch a game ,it didnt go through though?when incheck the system it was still 9.0.1 but all my games were gone ,so i tried to search the net for a fix and followed some instructions about downloading the latest atmosphere and hekate.Copy paste over them on my sd card ,but when i try to lauch cfw it just gives me a black screen ,and when i try to load the fusee primary it gives me a 2162-0002 error .Again ive tried to search for a solution and all i could find was to delete the /titles/ folder (did that but still same reault) ,deleted themes from nx themes (same result) .So now i have no idea what else to do . Any help is greatly appreciated!

Update your Atmosphere Build, there should be no titles Folder, it's now called contents.

Best would be to try a spare micro SD with only Atmosphere on it and formatted as Fat32.
Also make sure that you're really injecting the latest Fusee-Primary with TegraRCM, or whatever
you're using.

It sounds like he had only updated a game and not the firmware itself since he says his fw was still on 9.0.1 meaning he could still launch cfw and see his games had disappeared after updating which i don't think it would have launched if he had updated the fw. I'm far from an expert though but think you shouldn't have updated your ams build after this since your firmware is still 9.0.1 and updating your cfw made them incompatible causing that black screen, maybe try restoring the ams build for 9.0.1?

Also use incognito mode or use the 90DNS internet connection. It can prevent accidental updates
Also higher Atmosphere updates work for previous firmware. Its not firmware specific. Its hard to pinpoint the issue b/c some of it doesn't make any sense. Updating a game shouldn't cause his other games to disappear. Dealing with latest Atmo will require to delete old atmo and kosmos folders from your SD card. You cannot copy/paste them over the previous atmo you had or it will cause errors.

I think it was the system firmware ,it said system update and i was in a panic i took out the ethernet cable from our modem! not liked it helped as it restarted ,but still had the theme on but my games were all gone ,when i checked the system software it still says 9.0.1,so i tried to follow what sej did but when i try to launch cfw emummc its just a black screen,tried to launch the fusee primary but it goes blank after the nintendo logo.

Overwriting should be fine. Make sure you also update the sig patches.
