I couldn't tell you if there's a way to block it internally or if there will ever be a way. I do know you could easily block the URLs used by the Wii U using your router, though. At least on most routers you should be able to.

I can't say I've had the balls to actually remove all other blocking systems I have in place and solely try this, but supposedly on your Wii U, you only need to set your DNS to the TubeHax DNS to block Nintendo's servers (can keep your IP Address on Auto-Obtain for dynamic IP)

DNS: Don't auto-obtain
Primary DNS: 107.211.140.065
Secondary DNS: 107.211.140.065

only your router is passworded ?
If you can access WiiU settings, why not use proxy solution ?

instead of using OpenDNS to do the filtering, your computer is doing it !
I prefer using that solution over online service, that way I can enable/disable/edit rules quickly and even while playing. for example, block system update, but allow game update.
you can even see the accessed URL in realtime and determine if you should block or allow internet access.

The proxy solution is not 100% safe either, as few things are bypassing it completely (Netflix streaming for example, or homebrew on vWii, but that's a benefit!)

First rule : be sure that you disable the standby/quick boot and auto-download options. that way, you can see what's happening when you are using your console.
if you enable shutdown update, you still risk to update it.

Then follow CCProxy guide in the WiiU FAQ. it's a free application (it works even if you setup more than 3 free accounts).

Is there a way to kick off the WiiU from my network automatically after 3-5mins? I just need connected to load wiiubru, and want it to disconnect after that.
I don't trust blocking these URL's since Nintendo could always change them at some point, and BAM your WiiU is updated.

The best way to do it is to self host the files on your internal network then block the Wii U MAC from the internet from within your router.

Nintendo could change them, BUT there is no way for the Wii U to know that they were changed without an update of the software so it knows to look at the new hostname.

Self host and set up tubehax . It doesn't matter if your IP is dynamic. It's just a manual dns setup. If you self host then you won't have to go online to run the exploit. It's easy to set up using xampp

I believe there's a pretty extreme way to stop updates, by deleting vWii ios's?
But if in the future you want to update/downgrade whatever maybe (Probably) you won't be able to do it.

I personally just block with my router the Nintendo Update Servers, it never fails and you can still play online, and I also use TubeHax DNS, just in case.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
