Finally managed to get a real response, not some stupid stock email they send to everyone from Team cyclops this morning regarding thier update.

"Dear James,

We know that many users are waiting for the upgrade and we're doing our
best to release it as soon as possible. We are a few days late on the
deadline, due to last minutes changed to the code that is still needed to
be tested. I can't give you an exacte date, but it will be coming this
week for sure... Our website will be updated.

We hope this answers your question and that you understand, if you have
any more question don't hesitate to contact us again

Best Regards,
Team Cyclops - Tech Support"

I think the fact that they've havent released thier update has already made thier sales slowdown....anyone from today and possibly last week who was wanted to buy a modchip would easily go for wiikey...cyclowiz has nothing left going for them, wiikey has everything cyclowiz promises and the wiikey support team...well they're just on top of everything, releasing setup discs that dont require GC controllers and not because people asked but because they want to make sure everyones happy.

team cyclops need to stop counting thier money and actually push this update out and shut everyone up

In the beginning I was a big cyclowiz fan but now this is starting to piss me off. So far they have passed two of their own set deadlines with no update in sight.

A post on gamefreax said the problem with Cyclowiz is that while updates are possible, doing so would release the Cyclowiz source code to the public.  That would give them a good reason to wait until sales died down.

I don't think their sources would be available to the public ;0.
Not the sourcecode but the binary code which can be disasembled (and since the pic holds very little code it's fairly easy to get the code you are looking for)
From what I understand it's a non trivial task to read out the programcode because of copy protection but if they just release the updatefile it's publically available

garyopa (famous for X-Box firmware mods) explained it pretty well on WiiNewz...

garyopa said:
To correctly program the SX28 with no errors and burned chips, you do need extra hardware to time and control the programming voltage which is 12.5volts on one of the OSC pins of the SX28, this is where the SWITCH you solder on the Cyclowiz comes into play, it turns on and off the HIGH-VOLTAGE.

The second connection the S wire connects to a controllable IO port on the DVD controller and then connects on the Cyclowiz to the other side of the OSC pins of the SX28.

To program the SX28 you would need to send a timed signal with the binary data on the S point and then the 12.5volt needs to be turned on and off at the right times to enter into programming mode and to exit the mode.

This is where the external programmer normally comes into play, and you can build one for about $10 in parts, and the main part is a way to turn on and off the 12.5volts for programming, and these parts are NOT ON THE CYCLOWIZ.

So this is where the problem comes into play in upgrading the Cyclowiz:

#1: No parts on the PCBoard to control the high-voltage programming,
This is control by the USER using the ON and OFF switch.

#2: The SX28 does not re-program itself, this is done by external control.

#3: This being the case, your Cyclowiz needs to be working and COMPATIBLE
with your WII to be able to load a program like GCOS with a homebrew
program in GC mode to upload code into the RAM which outputs the
new SX28 binary via the IO port which is connected by the S point.

#4: This program would need to have screens to inform the user when
to turn on and off the HIGH-VOLTAGE switch to start and end the
programming cycles.

#5: The program better also have ways to read back and compare the
new SX28 binary to make sure it is flashed and working correctly,
otherwise if the user shuts down the WII, and the SX28 was not
programmed correctly, there would be no way to reupload the
new SX28 binary without an external programmer or the user
having another way to load a GC homebrew via SDLOAD and
Action Reply, etc.

#6: If they ever did make a upgrade disc, it would open the floodgates
of cheap china-make clones as there is noway to protect the data
flow of the new SX28 binary going into your own blank clone chip.

Openchip also added this bit to the discussion...
openchipthe pin 12V is switche to, CAN TAKE 12V if the SX28 is set into programming
mode, eg it is ONLY OK to activate the switch during certain time
during the update where the OSC pin is detached from the oscillator
and made input.

this why cyclo says: keep swithc OFF!!!

if you turn switch ON at ANY OTHER TIME
then the osc circuitry is connected to the 12V pin, and 12V possible
flows to the others pins, including 3.3V supply of the modchip and the drive.

so everything can burn down.

simple as that. DO NOT DO THING if you dont know what happens.

cyclo text DOES say: "MUST BE OFF" this was not just a warning.

sorry folks if your drives dont work after SWITCH ON, and desolder
of the cyclo thing, you need to get another WII.
