This is much bigger than the last few updates. The others took a few seconds to download. This has been going on for minutes.
Finally at least something is done other than "security enhancements".

Can anyone confirm if a R4i 3DS "v4.5" card works on the newest system patch? I seriously feel like killing myself, I ordered this flashcart yesterday, today I wake up to learn that there has been a new patch.

This update fixes multiple code execution vulnerabilities, so updating is not a good idea right now.

http://3dbrew.org/wiki/5.0.0-11
IRC version of all the bad news. :(
Don't update kids.
Code:
[01:27] yellows8 http://3dbrew.org/wiki/5.0.0-11#NATIVE_FIRM_and_other_titles
[01:28] crowell so, not good... do you still have any exec, yellows8 ?
[01:28] yellows8 nope
[01:30] |<-- Tear has left efnet (Read error: Operation timed out)
[01:43]    -->|    _3DSGuy ([email protected]) has joined #3dsdev
[01:44] _3DSGuy Hmm, I don't like the update
[01:44] _3DSGuy both errdisp and NATIVE_FIRM updated
[01:46] yellows8 http://3dbrew.org/wiki/5.0.0-11#NATIVE_FIRM_and_other_titles "Multiple
NATIVE_FIRM code execution vulnerabilities was fixed." <- code exec hax used by this
savegame hax was fixed.
[01:49] crowell did neimod have any other code execution paths?
[01:49] _3DSGuy okay, now I'm sad
[01:49] crowell or was he just using yours too?
[01:49] _3DSGuy At least I didn't update
[01:50] yellows8 "or was he just using yours too?" on his non-ramhax 3ds systems yes.
[01:50] crowell ramhaxx meaning the crazy fpga-setup?
[01:51] yellows8 ofcourse
[01:51] _3DSGuy @yellows8 does this mean the save hack won't see the light of day now?
[01:54] yellows8 wasn't planning on using that code exec hax in any public release
anyway, but they could have fixed vulns in the arm11 kernel too.

would be nice, but think you have more chance of the pope being ok with gays tho
lol, wise-cracking pong. Its a treat :P

This whole thing was shaky from the get-go. I'm not really surprised it was fixed either.
The last super-optimistic hope is that they learn enough about the system to make an emulator.

In the meantime, I expect people will migrate to all of these new low-cost open source systems that are coming out. That's the future of the homebrew scene, IMO.

So that's a bad news. Luckily i'm trying to break my past record in staying with old firmwares.
What if that hack is implemented using hardware.

Can anyone tell me, how do you think of that chip decapping now. Yeah.
Okey. Would someone please recommend some books about hacking console?
I need some not-too-hard ones to use as tutorial.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
