Hello everyone,

I hope you guys can help me with my issue. I am trying to run the game "Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" with the Fast Text Speed ROM Hack on my N3DSXL with Twilight Menu. However, the game freezes at the very beginning of the game. I googled the issue and it seems this is an Anti Piracy Measure, which is somehow activated after applying the ROM Hack. I used romhacking.net to do that. I tried AP-Patching the modded rom via the DS Scene ROM Tool, but it does not recognize the game, only the unmodded rom does.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

If you're lucky, the built-in ap patch for twlmenu also works on the modified rom, if it didn't change memory addresses too much. Then you could make that patch work with the modded rom, but you'd need some manual tinkering

This one right?

edit: ap fix for the patched rom is already bundled into twlmenu, and it seems to work fine for me. if it's not working then I suggest asking here instead:

Hi there, 4d1xlaan, thank you for your response! Sorry about not responding earlier. I created my account here only for this problem and I could not send an answer in my own thread, because of the auto-spam filter (I needed min. 5 posts). Anyway, I did it just like you said. Uploaded the ROM and the ROMHack on https://www.romhacking.net/patch/, saved the modded rom, put it on my SD Card. However, when I try to run the game, it immediately freezes on the first puzzle, always at the exact same spot. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

did you try using the patcher utility mentioned in the readme?

https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/356/

it's possible the web one could be patching it incorrectly

also, you are using the latest twlmenu, right? just to make sure, because an older version might not have the patches, or older version of nds bootstrap might have issues

edit: by the way, I just realized... the patched rom has the exact same header crc as the unpatched rom, so it didn't even need any specific patch for the rom hack, it uses the same one as the regular unpatched game

literally the only thing the patch changes, is a 0x03 at 136D2h to a 0x02. only one byte difference between the original and the patched rom

and yeah I can confirm the web patcher patches it the same way as the other program I linked, so unless the file is getting corrupted when it patches and exports it, this is probably not the source of the problem

I assume if you try the unpatched game, it will have the same issue, correct?

it's probably the sd card tbh, since that's the only thing that would be different between your setup and everyone else's. unfortunately there's no way to really fix that aside from trying a different card. hopefully card read dma being disabled won't break anything and the game will work fine without it
