What's so bad about it?
I honestly hope Sony fixed some critical vulnerability, as that would only increase the chances of someone releasing exploits for older firmwares.

Exactly.

Nothing bad about it, lets see what it patches or not and see if anything stirs up the scene.

Userland is not very Hard to find.

the question is whether the kernel exploit was fixed

Fingers crossed for the 5.01-5.05 massive.

Mathiuelh just tweeted that update is out and "if you care about hombrews dont update", so lets watch the fall out unfold.....

Multiple choice.
A. Update your PS4 and play God of War on the 20th.

B. Hack your Switch and install android.

C. Unplug your Xbone and throw it at your nearest Microsoft employee.

You can only choose 1. The correct answer isn’t what you think it is. Or is it.

Have a question - at some point when someone release first true cfw or some homebrew tool then hacked ps4 will be able to run newer games on older expolitable firmwares ?

Afaik you need keys to run newer games on older FW, but that means cracking SAMU.... not likely to happen soon. Same for CFW, keys required to allow CFW to install on OFW IIRC. (Like how PS3 couldnt install CFW PUP unless it was base <3.56, as only keys for 3.55 were found thanks to sony fail)

In essence you would want to update your FW (if youre on <4.55) to the latest OFW that allows Holy Grail, to run newer games.... that assumes newer FW's will get hax ever....

Last edited by KiiWii,
I believe there was a Russian Horizon Zero Dawn leak that worked on newer firmwares.
However, there are no publicly known methods to achieve this as far as I know.

That was dumped using private 4.55 exploit at a time when 4.05 was public.

The SDK used was same as 4.05 so editing SFO and eboot allowed it to play on lower.

No magic.

Haha along with "5.xx wen?" someone just posted this to Mathieulh...

I choose D. Update your Switch and play with a cardboard box on 27th.

BTW, to those hating on Math, were you around during the early days of the PSP scene when we used Devhook on 1.50? If so, you might remember the dev called Booster. Well that was actually Math using an alias :)

Math was pivotal in the psp and ps3 scenes, I dont get why people feel the need to harrass and piss him off :(

I get the frustration, I just don't think it's well-aimed at someone who has been contributing in a big way for over 10 years.

TBH, I also thought we'd have the 5.x hacks by now, but it's starting to feel like it might not be soon anymore. If it was me, I'd sell and try to get a lower firmware PS4. It's probably not as easy as it was a couple months back, but it's still better than grinding your teeth for god knows how long. Even if you have to message hundreds of sellers on ebay till you find a bargain, it's worth the effort.

I have connections in second hand retailers that are scouring for a PRO on 4.55 for me. They havent come across one yet. Since 4.55 HEN came out.

I did consider that for a while when I was all hyped up, but after thinking it through I decided there probably wasn't enough of a performance gap to make it worth it when there will probably be a PS5 in the next year or two. Most people I've spoken to said they hardly noticed any difference after upgrading.

Now if we had a thriving emulation scene, then the extra horsepower could be worth it.

Exactamundo.

PS2 classics already benefit.
I totally forgot about PS2. Yeah, if that's the case then it's worth it for sure as some games are just not playable on regular PS4.

I'm still excited about PS5 though, especially since I'm waiting to jump into the whole VR thing and been forcing myself to wait for the next gen when it will actually be worth it.

I actually made a big-ass Excel table before buying my PS4 comparing Pro vs OG versions, because I paid 330€ for my slim (albeit with 2 controllers and Uncharted 4), and a Pro was 350€ (although it probably would not have been hackable). So I made a list of all the games I would play and seeing as how I am still using a 1080p display, I found almost zero reasons to go Pro. Maybe The Last Guardian I guess, and multisampling, but I've been gaming for more than 20 years without multisampling so what's a few more years :D ?

Btw, I don't know how significant changes between 4.55 and 5.xx are - do you think there could be some problems with save games? I mean, I still haven't upgraded from 4.05 to 4.55 so I have no idea if I'll get to keep my backup saves or no, but I guess those two fw-s were more similar to each other than 5.55 and 5.xx?

I'm really not sure, hopefully by the time it's out there will be a way to re-sign savedata so it won't be an issue.
