I have a Wiikey too, and the 10 discs I tried didn't work on 4.2.

Luckily I did a NAND backup yesterday. I put it back. Now I'm on 4.0E again and my discs work again.

Mariomaniac, you totally explained it to me. I didn't understand at all, but now you told about the new "wiikey" detection, it all seems very logic (and very annoying).
What error were you getting when trying to launch games on 4.2? What was happening? Curious if it's the same thing, or close to the same thing as me. There is no workaround for this yet? Sounds like us modchip folks are getting left in the dust a bit with all this soft modding going on.
I got no error. The disc just doesn't read. So when I click on the disc channel there's the infamous question mark.
The Gamecube multigame discs however all worked!

I had one disc (Call of Duty 3) that worked. But I don't know if it was PAL or NTSC.

I don't even know what sort of Wiikey I have. I'm positive it's a clone, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Now I'm on 4.0 again and every disc reads perfectly.

Sounds like a totally different issue than mine. Oh well, thanks anyway.

I'm really stuck with what to try next. With zero replies to my thread yet it sounds like I'm not the only one.

People here keep telling about downgrading to 4.1.

Is it doable?
And what are ther NAND backups?

All I know that at some point I installed some cIOS in order for the pal disc playablity (infamous black screen problem was fixed after that) but I do not remember what it was. Now they don't play. I have both Indiana and Smash Brothers to try the hack with. But what good will it do? I still don't understand what I am supposed to do.
May someone could guide me step-by-step

Does the 4.2 update do anything to the Wiikey2?
If it does, could that possibly be fixed with an update from the Wiikey team? They haven't updated the Wiikey2 in a long while, and now seems to be a good opportunity.

Could some of you try Gecko OS and see if that still works with other region games?

Thx
Yep, GeckoOS works as a workaround. It's the system menu that's blocking it, not the IOS as far as I know.

QUOTE(mariomaniac33 @ Oct 1 2009, 02:28 PM) I've been analyzing system menu 4.2U. It has updated security around the region protection. It also appears to contain modchip detection (hence error 003). This is when "stealth" modchips come in handy. Remember how Wiikey 1 was reported to have semi-stealth? That's the problem. It can only get around some of the checks. As far as I understand, it is in "full stealth" when you play in region games. However, if you turn on dev-mode or play out of region games, it reverts to semi-stealth, so it's detectable

. As far as 4.1 goes, there are no modchip checks, so you're good if you downgrade.
I beg to differ. Upgrading to 4.1 has caused newer games to stop loading from the disc channel when they were working fine on 3.2. At least on my Wii with a Wiinja Deluxe modchip. I have no idea what to do to get it working again (besides going back to 3.2...).
Yeah, good point, there are error 001 and 002 out there, but the checks were inside each game as far as I know, which is why you can remove such checks with programs such as Wii Generic Patcher.

It seems like this time, error 003 is incorporated in the Wii System Menu at some level, rather than the games.

Is it possible to downgrade from 4.2 by installing sysmenu 4.1 w/o the wii bricking? This is of course assuming you have vulnerable Ios'es or cIos still in there.

Well, I don't get any errors. My discs won't read at all. Is that a different problem? It's certainly strange if it is because after going back to 4.0 the disc show up again in the discs channel.

I'm on 3.4 right now with wiikey 1.92. It seems the most stable Nintendo System version is 4.1.
How can you get this version to load. Is there a disk iso you can burn? I'm scared to use wad manager with the NUSD downloader file System Menu-NUS-v449.wad.

I will stay at 3.4 for now.

Any suggestions.

I experienced problems with both out of region games and Trusha-Signed/Scrubbed games after I updated using Waninkoko's 4.2 Updater. Luckily I installed the latest Homebrew Channel and BootMii so I was able to roll back to Waninkoko's 4.1.

And I have a Wiikey 1 too, so there's bugger all chance of me getting any sort of update from the Wiikey guys

Will have to stay with 4.1 I guess and run future DVDs via Gecko or NeoGamma. What a bloody pain in the arse!!!

You can update that way, but make sure you install IOS60 v6174 as well if you do. Forgetting to install the IOS will brick...

Do NOT install IOS60 v6400, which is a stub and will brick your wii if installed with 4.1 menu!

I can verify the issue after updating to 4.2. I have an NTSC Wii with a Wiikey 2. I have never set up the Homebrew channel so, no softmods have been done. I have checked about twenty backup games out. Any NTSC games work fine. NO PAL games that were converted to NTSC work. If anyone has any advise I would appreciate it. Is it possible for me to back up to 4.1 without bricking my system. I have an original bought Super Smash Bros Brawl. I thought I read that I might be able to use that some how. Please help me if you can.

Hi people... I have a Wii that dates from 2007 and I got a Wiikey on it. This wii is originally a NTSC-J but I've region changed it to NTSC-U. This region change was done about 1 year ago (or more) and I had 3.2U + Wiikey 1.9s. I was using only USB Loader GX running my ISOs from a WD Passport HDD and everything was fine.

As I had done various softmod on newer wiis I decided to upgrade mine as well... But after I've done it, I can play very few ISOs... I don't need to play Discs, just the ISOs. I did the same process I do for all the other Wiis I've softmoded... (I've done this on 8 Wiis already and all works fine...)

But now, as I've mentioned I can't play all the ISOs I used to play. Even ISOs from the same region I am (NTSC-U) like for example Lego Batman... And again, all was working fine before this 4.2U update.

I'm out of ways to have it loading all the ISOs again... Could someone PLEASE help me on that? I have 2 kids very sad about this once they can't play the favorite games anymore (Lego ones...)

I'm looking forward a feedback...
