Short and sweet. Since Pokemon Gold/Sliver were designed for use with the pedometer accessory for gaining XP, AND since the 3DS has a built in pedometer...

are they compatible? Does the 3DS pedometer data "feed" Gold/Silver?

Nope is the simple answer. The WHY is because the game initializes a DS mode within the 3DS, locking out any part that wasn't in the original DS, in case you were wondering.

Now that I think about it. If they plan to use the pokewalker feature in future games you'll probably be able to use the 3DS as the walker.

They could use play coins as well... Few games use play coins feature yet...
Please no... Unless they raise the ten coin per day limitation.

I dont understand this limitation yet. 1000 steps dont make fat kids lose weight (or that was not the goal of this thing?)

I think its just insentive to carry your 3DS around that and streetpasses also the ten coin limit is fine. If it was anyhigher you would just shake a crapload of coins in when you needed defeating the point of even putting it in.
