How long has it been since 2.0 was announced now....oooh 4 months?
What's come has been pretty poor form, let's be honest.
We're talking about basic flashcart functionality here, that really should have been in there from the beginning,
Something is definitely fishy here.
"Basic flash cart functionality" is running a game from sort sort of third party media storage device that is not a retail game cartridge. Multi-rom is a luxury. And I can see why they didn't bother to release it at first. Perhaps the initial release was enough to fund their ongoing research for it--or likely more importantly, the Gateway (like all flash cards at the moment) relies on 4.1 to 4.5 firmware. In that respect, had they held out until multi-rom support to release, then more people would have likely updated to newer firmwares due to retail carts and the such. If some major release like Pokemon had come out before Gateway, the majority of their market would be gone on updated units. Hell, when I got Pokemon Y, I would have updated right off had the existence of Gateway not already been there. I'm not going to hold off on a handheld unit on some prospect of "maybe my firmware will be hackable". If there is no existing market, I'm not holding out.

More importantly, it's not as simple as everybody is making it out to be. Otherwise, we'd have a lot more flash carts with multirom by now. And the one we have wouldn't have terrible compatibility like it does. As console hardware becomes more advanced, this is simply the reality of it. People either need to accept that, start working on solutions to their problems for themselves, or at least stop acting like teams are still trying to hack the SNES and be patient.

I only have one dsi game to compare, but i picked up Shantae 2 from the shop, and whenever I try to run it on emunand, the screen goes black indefinitely. Using an r4i deluxe btw.

All my other 3ds eshop games work fine. Any ideas?

Well there isn't any current functionality for updating the cards, so they're right when they say it can't. In the future, their words might change though.

There is functionality, and it works.. the public just isnt aware of how they will do it, but that doesnt means it wont happen.... For the 1000th time GW team have been totally transparent with their motives/actions/updates, its even in plain english on the site.. People just dont have to buy into Rubbish that a R4i Fanboy Reseller said (aliexpress even. must be true.. and the fact he only stocked the clones...)
But when there is nothing better too do, how about multiple pages of conjecture...

People considered they may have needed a FPGA update for CARD2 considering the carts original instruction was read only, so NAND Saving demo was proof ??
Multirom support is probably the hardest feature of all to implement in such, the red cart doesn't have any file system support as it is, its emulating a retail cart from an image, On top of that also needs a sane switching method, and possibly save redirection to the microsd if its wanted by alot of users. Considering the time from GWs release till now and its still a WIP, it takes time and effort, imagine if all users that complain, combined together to put the effort they use to bitch and whine to learn and do something productive to forward progress, you would be running all off a SD by now :)

"Note: User feedback for GW2.0b2 has been overwhelmingly positive. The absolute stability of our beta menu system was an important milestone for us prior to pushing out the FPGA update required for some of the new features."

"As you can imagine, both these features required a major revamp of our hardware's internal firmware, something we had known and planned for from day one so rest assured, unlike others, GW3DS is a fully featured and FULLY updatable hardware design. Our policy has and will always be to stick by our customers and ensure they get value for their money."

What's exactly wrong with aliexpress? I've searched a few reviews and came up with a lot of fraud results?

That's exactly what I meant, but instead you took it as an insult and had to reiterate everything I just said on a way more complicated level. Congrats.

People have gotten knockoffs from there. Not to say all there products are counterfeit, some things may be legit, but you are taking a gamble to save a few dollars. Better to just go with an authorized dealer, especially for 'gray' market items like flashcarts.

It seems that the R4i loader card is a standard (R4i DS) flashcard. So for those people who already have a flash card, only the "starter" card is required. Is anybody aware if there is someone selling only the starter card?

Thank you all

I seriously doubt that there is a place that only sells the starter card, since they come together from R4i and selling them individually would be a really bad business practice (since they'll most likely end up with a lot of Blue cards and stupid customers complaining that their products don't work without the blue card). Also, I wouldn't trust anyone that actually is selling the starter card individually since it would most likely be fake/defective.

I sent email to gateway and this is the responds that I got back from them.

Hah, it's a possibility that, after all these months working with the system, they have acquired more knowledge about it and discovered a workaround, but still take it as a way to not lose the attention of all >4.5 3DS users.

that was just something I was glad to see when they emailed me. I was able to take my wifes purple 3ds back it had firmware 6.2 on it I found 1 purple 3ds at gamestop with a 4.4 firmware so I scored lucky on that considering I called all walmarts and toysrus and when I checked that gamestop they had 3 purple of them were serial numbers with a cw72 and 1 that was a serial number cw42

That is very interesting indeed! I thought they said that if GW was to be compatible with higher firmware in the future, it won't be anything after 6.x.

Do you really think they will come to some sort of solution in the future? Or is it really like you said something to not lose the attention of users with firmware higher than 4.5? Even though, months ago, they said that they are working on getting the firmware to work for 6.x (they said it could take weeks or months, but they are working on it.) But honestly, this is interesting...

Clearly something in the very early stages of development if they aren't willing to give an ETA, but that's huge if they've found a workaround or another exploit for >4.5 systems.

if they are able to get the gateway to work with firmware above 4.5 in my book they will be considered flashcard gods

just have had this night a email from GT they told:

Multirom, like pokemon x/y, is coming very soon.
then just soon
we are ready :D

Lol. I'm really surprised they're willing to send out customized messages to people, even of that length. There's probably only one guy operating the e-mail side of things...if I were him I'd just copy/paste the same response until GW was ready to give a concrete date or release window.

Question. Did you (and this can be directed to other users as well) received this email without asking them anything? I mean, this was an email for advertising?
