I don't think you can use your backup NAND on other 3ds beside on your own. Each 3ds produces different Nand.

Could someone tell if backing up the emunand on PC has to be done right after "backup system nand", or after "format emunand" ?
This point is not clear for me.
Also once in gateway mode aka GW3D 6.3 X-XX, is there a risk to activate streetpass (to get notifications on eshop for example)

"backup NAND" creates a Nand.bin file on your SD card.
Copy this file to PC.

"Format/prepare EmuNAND" FORMAT all your SD card.
If you do "Backup NAND" and "Format NAND" without doing a backup of your SD card, you will loose all your files located on it, the Nand.bin too.


If you forgot to do the backup to your PC before formating your SD card, don't worry !
You can still do a "Backup NAND", which will (again) copy the real NAND to your SD card's FAT partition into Nand.bin

You can do a NAND backup as much as you want. it will always make a copy of your NAND's current state to Nand.bin

Edit: Like Dagro said bellow, always do a backup and save it to your computer before updating the EmuNAND partition. If the update goes wrong and you end updating your RealNAND, you won't have any possibility to downgrade.


For your second question, I don't know. I'm also wondering if it's safe to use streetpass without affecting the real NAND. (few things affects it, even when in EmuNAND, like Eshop transaction and WiFi settings, and probably other things untested yet)

You are supposed to back up your realNAND not emumand. Do that before/after but do it asap before any updates.

I meaned "save the emunand" on pc once created.

I looked into them first and found out they just reroute your order to Asia, and it takes 1 - 3 weeks to receive your order.

I ordered 1 gateway at release and 2 gateways about 4 weeks ago. They were sent from the netherlands and arrived in about 3-4 days here in southern germany (swiss border).

Just looked at their site again. They indeed are an asia shop now... damn

I guess the ''Read'' function is the win32diskimager will make my backup right?
Can I just use that backup using the ''write'' function again?

ok so if i want to play pokemon and other 3ds games get the gate way 3ds? and make sure i buy a 3ds which is copyright 2012? if i go to gamestop and ask them will they be suspicious or am i allowed to do that? i dont wanna get one from craigslist or anything..

any does gateway have the support like r4i etc?

and can the supercard dstwo also work on the 3ds?

your best bet is to go to target. Game stop will just give you the system. In my personal opinion, I don't really like the 're-sellers' from the Netherlands.. Both NL resellers are the same company, and they both need to ship the gateway from out of the country to the Netherlands.. Not to mentioned that the NL website has been translated with a translator in my opinion, and their payment system (paypal) goes to a gmail address and the only contact they do have is through a contact form.. No phone whatsoever.

My problem is that I paid through paypal and that I was re-directed with an error and then to another site of which I assume is also theirs. I've already contacted them with my concerns seeing I made the payment, but I received:

"Hi, thanks for your email, you can just ignore the unpaid order and go ahead with a new order , the unpaid order will not be effective, so pls don't worry."

With other information as well, while I clearly mentioned I already paid. Luckily, paypal allows a claim / chargeback, just in case it's required. So I'm happy I didn't use my bank account for a direct payment.

Is there a easy to read guide on how to set up the 3ds for gateway and how to back up your roms on to the gateway? Also on how to update the emunand and using it? I found one guide but its hard for me to read it
