probably never either even if there are the same Arch (I think Tegra is an arm processor branded under Nvidia correct me if I'm wrong they are different (tegra is aarch 64 where 3ds is arm v7 and v9) if you don't know anything how emulators work basicly you need a more powerful machine just to emulate (example is my 2016 dell barely runs citra 3ds at a playable speed (a good example is the usum rom hack Pokemon stars) but can run desmume without enabling JIT at full or higher speed anyways the switch is more powerful than the 3ds true...but tto emulate the 3ds? i doubt even max OC wouldn't allow any rom to run and you'll damage your switch if you OC it at the highest setting so if you don't want a $300 piece of toast i HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND you to even try

Let's hope we can emulate just DS at full speed, which with oc is now even possible...3ds, Wii or GC are dreams.

The 3ds has arm 11 and arm 9 not 7 and 9
my bad thanks Amanda for the correction still what i said of the host (switch) needing alot more power to emulate a 3ds is true tbh most emulators like zsnes use "tricks and hacks" to speed up emulation a more cycle accurate emulator like bsnes (formally higan) needs at least an i3 (or equivalant) to run good

Well, point me toto t patreon for that, I will make him rich.
Tried few months ago old lakka but it was unplayaule

Unplayable, true, but that was only a POC. It was only to show that it was possible.

And it was already displaying games correctly and at a somewhat acceptable framerate, not playable, but it was already well on it's way to becoming something amazing.

Though personally I'll be content with N64 games until then :P

Not a PoC, literally is THE BEST the switch can do; aarch64 dynarec, hw acceleration, EVEN speedhacks has been done. Sorry guys, no GameCube emulation this time, just let the dreams die alreally.

Well I was going off of this thread and many others saying that it was being worked on. Since I doubt that it was perfected and fully optimized(as best it could) for the platform after only being worked on for a small amount of time.

The Switch’s CPU is ARMv8. The 3ds’s ARM11 CPU (which is used for games & shit) is ARMv6 and its ARM9 CPU (which is used for security shit) is either ARMv4 or ARMv5

That's why you think it is possible?
The person I quoted was wrong about the CPU architectures of the 3ds and I was just correcting them.

But anyways, I think it may be possible, but I can’t really say for sure whether I think its possible or not until there’s a 3ds dynarec for aarch64 (without a dynarec 3ds games run at about half speed in lakka iirc)

GameCube and Wii emulation should be very much possible with overclock, it's just that dolphin is not up to the task.

Wrong. The graphics driver we currently have in lakka isn't very good. Some people are currently working on getting the official nvidia driver working which WILL increase the performance. By how much? Who knows, but it will improve it (it'll probably run about the same as it does on the shield TV though, if you use max OC of course)

Dolphin on Shield TV most likely has Android optimizations, I doubt L4T will perform the same as the Shield TV (I may be wrong tho).

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
