Hmm, not trying to judge, or anything, but why choose the dishonest path about solving this situation? Why not just handle it like a man, sell your updated 3DS, and buy another one with lower firmware? I don't think it's right to destroy a perfectly good product, just to dishonestly save a few bucks. If money is really an issue for you, OP, have the person who accidentally updated your 3DS to pay up the difference.

That's what I said on the other thread.

It's his fault if he left his 3DS in a place where some kid could just update his console.

On the othet way, attempt a hardmod.

Yeah, maybe you can just say that the 3ds wasn't for you and you picked up the wrong color

That's if he can use a soldering iron. Not everyone can.
It's a benefit for someone who wants to brick a 3DS! ;)

If he succeedes, he can downgrade his stuff without much trouble, if he fails he's just attempting to scam a company who tried to make me buy stuff for a Mew code that was given away for free.

Either way It's his responsability.

My bad, you have a point there.
Regarding the OP's question:
Try downloading something from the eShop. Turn the 3DS off when it's no more showing the download (no more falling things into the app icon), but the gift hasn't been wrapped yet. This hopefully corrupts title.db resulting in a brick.
corrupting the title.db bricks? I've replaced them for emunand, corrupting them and it never resulted in a brick anyway. Why would it? They're on the sd card.

someone accidentally updated my 3ds. so, I can't use gateway. and so I called GameStop since I had it for a week and told them that it wouldn't turn on and they said they'd replace it for free. so, tying to brick it

Go ask for help committing fraud elsewhere.

Better yet, don't commit fraud at all. /lock
