You can try starting update to 10.6 now and power off the console when it's halfway in if you really want a pricey paperweight. Dunno if "success" rate is 100% tho.
well, it didn't work. it just updated in 3 seconds.

Why do you want to brick it?
someone accidentally updated my 3ds. so, I can't use gateway. and so I called GameStop since I had it for a week and told them that it wouldn't turn on and they said they'd replace it for free. so, tying to brick it

If you can get *hax on it, you can try PlayCoinSetter 3DSX to restore a corrupt gamecoin.dat

Did you try booting the recovery mode and turning of the 3ds while in progress?

that worked for you?

how do I do that?

Turn on your 3ds and press L+R+up+A and keep them pressed

Just set the date to 2000 Jan 1, init savedata in browser.
Browserhax doesn't work on 10.6
That only works if you are on a prior version and you have already the browser's nag.

My bad, you have a point there.
Regarding the OP's question:
Try downloading something from the eShop. Turn the 3DS off when it's no more showing the download (no more falling things into the app icon), but the gift hasn't been wrapped yet. This hopefully corrupts title.db resulting in a brick.
