The crystal-toy-ish-add-on thing seen on Bandai's page is apparently an integral part of this game. having only tried 5 minutes of this game, it already seems unplayable without that thingy.

Right after the opening, the game will ask you to plug that crystal in in order to revive some legendary monster... and the game won't progress until you do. Perhaps a patch is in order?

I'm taking it that someone will have to upload their save file after using the toy? I mean, the toy would work with flashcarts, right?

There's no point playing this without buying the actual game with the toy adapter. Everything you achieve with your Legendz creature is set inside it. So, I doubt there will be a patch for it. Pity since this looked like an interesting game even though the controls are a bit awkward.
