    Hello! Another test. If you're seeing this message, this is coming from a Samsung DeX on a Galaxy Note 8! This system has definitely seen its years, but it still manages to hold up on this specialized software to this very day! It seems that I have less problems with it than my Galaxy S24 Ultra from years afterwards...

    after making my last posts on the good morning post, I'm very very tempted to donate the rest of my GBATemp XP to support this forum. I can't do it financially, and I don't have enough XP to make it through more than a single month.

    Once I find a personal way of stable income, I'm going to find a way to financially support this site. You guys deserve every dollar that's coming to you for providing one of the greatest homebrew catalogs, developers, and members that respect other members that's been around for two whole ass decades. I know I haven't been around since the glory days of hacking and homebrew, but ever since I made my account in 2022, I've been starting to grow attached to this site in the same veins as my discord being the most active site that I've been in.

    I'm going to donate to GBAtemp more and help the staff in these struggling times, too. I know I've had my fair share of criticisms but I can't fault them on that, since this is the site I grew up with right before I joined. It was the dumping ground that grew my modding knowledge and I absolutely care that my knowledge has helped others.

    Please donate or become patron only if you can comfortably afford it. Users are our lifeblood not donations. We've said multiple times that if it ever comes to it we'll pay for the site out of pocket again, like we did for years until we decided to run ads.

    Back around 2019-2020, I used an at-the-time 15-year-old Asus eeePC netbook as my only laptop for getting work done away from home, from the desktop computer.
    Similar stuff... 32-bit Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, a display with a height of 600 pixels, but a standard 2.5-inch Sata hard disk.
    I used the unofficial 32-bit version of Arch linux, the desktop environments LXDE and LXQt, or sometimes... doing simpler tasks directly from the text console to avoid launching the GUI.
    Despite it being an awful and slow experience with a lot of bugs (such as some configuration menus not fitting in 600px of screen height...), I remember it fondly, it's a warm memory... Having to adapt to a primitive environment.

    I don't think I will be using this other than as a thing to have since I never expected for this to be something that's barely usable. But to think that we used to have technology like this... Why has technology become so bloated? If we were to have the bloat-free nature of nowadays but with what we have with 5090s and all, I bet that society would be in a much better place. Think about it: Grand Theft Auto V ran on a PlayStation 3.

    hah I have an HP Stream 7 with I think Win 8.1 on it still that I used instead of a laptop to re-flash the BCM in my car to enable some non-standard options/features. It was not a particularly enjoyable experience, but it got the job done. Which reminds me, I need to do that again, but with something other than that tablet.

    I don't get why the favicon for putting this as a PWA on the Firefox app on Android is broken. On chromium, it's correct but zoomed way too much in (meanwhile with the Samsung browser it actually looks nice) but on Firefox, it's almost there but it shows it's corners and sometimes it doesn't even show. Is this something that potentially can be fixed?

    It's a very specific detail I know, but oversights like this are ones that I wished to be fixed despite the niche nature of them.

    Every browser implements it differently, and unless there's a universal tool to test this, it probably won't happen

    A lot of apps requires VC Redistribuitables and or .NET version updates.
    This only turns on and "works" locally, but eventually, you'll need to get those VC + .NET installations.

    yeah im not using retrogametalk anymore. that fourm antagonizes this one so bad and hard, it makes me want to support this one more than ever. I know I don't got the money to do such, but I want to see if I can do more to contribute to this fourm. I've been a member for such a long time in here, and never really had any issues with any of the members, but in rgt, some months after i joined, I was literally getting harassed there by some of the members, and the mods weren't doing much about it. They even took away the whole kick/ban system in favor of a "timeout" mode, and you don't even indefinitely get timed out!

    From a 2 minutes search it looks like a generic Xenforo forum that might as well be bootleg GBAtemp.
    In my 2 minutes I stumbled on at least 3 regulars I recognised and they pretty much wrote the kind of stuff I expected from them, lol
    Not a big loss I suppose.

    it ain't a huge loss. especially since one of my favorite members that i remembered here that also created an account removed their account there and still remains to be subtly active here and whatnot. i don't know about discord, but they even were a mod for the place for a bit to immediately see the cracks that still remain. my goodness i remember the whole thing that happened to their discord server...

    My website officially turns into its 1.1 release! While it doesn't look any different form the last update, I've managed to clean up the backend making things much better for me to add stuff in future updates!

    Kind of deciding on what to add next come to think of it, but for now, I want to try styling my Bear Blog to see if I'm able to make it look just as close as it does to my website. So far, it looks kind of close but not as the same as my website, presumably due to Bear Blog limits

    Didn’t Microsoft already try something similar with the Surface Go? I have the Go 4 and it’s pretty solid, though I could certainly imagine an ARM Surface Go would really do well. Go full circle for the Surface line lol

    An LLM can just reorganize stuff it has seen. A few weeks ago I asked Proton Lumo to help me building a Bash script that can be the basis of a DPM scanner for measuring data density on optical discs. To my knowledge there still is no open source implementation.

    It gave me an sg_raw command with syntax errors, but crafted a little loop that reads single sectors from CDs measuring the needed time once the command has been corrected.

    I uploaded the corrected version and asked for command line arguments. Lumo included standard command line arguments in a great way, but dismissed the syntax correction delivering another broken script.

    Then I started trial and error with my script until I found out how to get meaningful timings. Backward, forward, single sectors, larger steps, big jumps putting data into a text file for usage with Gnuplot. Now the output matches data delivered by Alcohol 120% at a given area.

    The LLM performed exceptionally well in including standard features any classic search will bring up ("Bash script command line arguments"). It saved me some time by producing a standard CLI. But it was fundamentally unable to do the creative part, things beyond rehashing existing knowledge.
    Now you decide: did I develop that little script or would you say this is illegitimate?

    I can't believe they've managed to get modern Linux distros running on the PlayStation 5. Consideing the power of that system, A bit of me wants to know just how strong the system is compared to the Xbox Series X for instance. Like, with the power that it has, are you able to make all PlayStation consoles work on there via emulation?

    I tried looking it up and I've gotten this. Even though they're stating that AI is becoming better and better, it still has annoying as fuck hiccups like this.

    @DragonMals It seems that there's a custom firmware for 3.55 that re-enables OtherOS, but beyond that from my skillset, there doesn't seem to be anything else. Sony did get sued because it was a requirement to sell the PS3 as a computer to avoid extra costs when importing them, and they broke that trust with the enthusiasts who always needed Linux for tasking.

    A lot of people are praising the year of Linux, but recently, I've been hearing that they've been constantly getting hit with malware attacks lately. The CEMU emulator being one of them! Some of their versions minus the flatpak have been affected by said exploits.

    Once patches are made available then there wouldn't be such fuss. People are saying that Linux had recently been exploited; well, so does Windows, as well. Doesn't matter which OS you use there's going to be vulnerabilities found or not.
