My running theory has just been the desire to have a Switch 2 Game Key Card. If they use Nintendo's official upgrade path they have to have the game on cartridge. They would still have the funky options open to them like we saw with Hogwarts... -

It's confirmed that there is no upgrade path for owners of the Switch 1 versions. Damn. (others have posted it above but just doing it myself to add it as a threadmark)
