Thinking about getting a WiiU and softmodding it but I don't know if its worth it. How is N64 emulation on it, what homebrew ports are worth getting (go ahead and say tha OoT Ship on the Poopdeck mod blah blah blah), what official WiiU games are worth the time and what accessories do I need to get other than the y cable I need for the hdd? Also do not tell me to get a Switch unless you're gonna give me one.
Edited: Will the WiiU Pro Controller work with every hombrew like Usbloader Gx and Nintendont?

It is worth getting, homebrew development has improved a lot in the last few months. N64 emulation is decent but not all games are working, some games are available on the vWi VC and some on the Wii U, you have access to games from almost every Nintendo console except Switch and 3ds.

Regarding the Wii U pro controller it does work with some vWii homebrew, USB loader GX and Nintendont support it, so you can use it for Gamecube games, but Wii games don't support it.

Have they improved hdd capability where you can have one hdd with gc, wii and wiiu games or do you need two hdds?

Affordability wise yes, it's easy to mod with Tiramisu, storage options is either USB or HDD with a Y cable and it's easy to setup.

You also need a SDHC card preferably a 64GB to install games.

Free Wii U games and free online.

Ppl still play Mario Kart 8, so you'll always find a lobby in Mario Kart 8 and idk about the other multiplayer games.

The only thing I don't like about the Wii U is the long loading times, like boot time, launching a game and exiting back to the Wii U home menu. It's just like 15 ish seconds.

I only use Wup Loader GX2, Savemii Mod so idk about the homebrew games and ports. Oh yeah forgot about the Homebrew App Store.

Screenshots of my Wii games at the bottom, my personal favourite is: Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild and The Wind waker HD. Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and New Super Mario Bros. U.

I only use the Wii U gamepad, but imo the Wii U pro controller is more comfortable to hold because it's lighter and not bulky like the Wii U gamepad.

I like playing Wii U games on the Wii U gamepad in my comfy bed.

I use a while silicone gel protective case for my Wii U gamepad as I get blisters on my fingers after holding the Wii U gamepad for long periods.

Oh yeah the Wii U gamepad disconnects if you go to far from the console and that's another thing I don't like about this console.

But overall the games are in HD graphics, play on big TV and the games are fun.

What official WiiU games are worth the time
Best check on metacritic

What accessories do I need to get other than the y cable I need for the hdd?
You will need two hdds, one for vwii and one for WiiU and Y- Cable for each plus a SDCard. Wiimote, Nunchuck and Sensorbar for Wii games. And best a ethernet adapter, original or a fake one with a specific chip from ugreen.
Edited: Will the WiiU Pro Controller work with every hombrew like Usbloader Gx and Nintendont?
Dont get fake one, else you get recognizen problems with the USB Loader
Cant tell for every homebrew because i only use USB loaders, but if iam right they mostly are updated. The USB loaders does, aslong no Wii game is started because it require a wiimote. And best is using a WiiU menu forwarder to the desired app on vWii, else there will be the wiimote check everytime. .

Theres really no way to have all the games on one hdd? Thats kinda a deal breaker especially when I don't like the y cable thing that could probably lead to power cycle problems.

@PacBunny Both need different filesystem formats You might inject them all to the WiiU drive. The limit is 300 games and max size is 2TB of the drive. You might also have some gc/wii games on SD Card.
And you will need the Y-Cable, else the drive doesnt get enough power even if its a USB 2.0/3.0 drive.

I have tried a few N64 injects and they worked fine. DS injection is pretty good too, if you don't have/want a real [3]DS to play portably, although a few games are incompatible.
Wii U games worth getting include: the HD Zelda remasters, Xenoblade Chronicles X (which makes extensive use of the Gamepad), BotW if you don't have a Switch (which has some mandatory gyro puzzles for which you will need the Gamepad as the Wii U Pro controller doesn't have gyro), Pikmin 3 ( I prefer the Wiimote+Nunchuk control vs. gyro on Switch).
Plus convenient playing of the Wii back catalogue.

N64 VC isn't that good but there are homebrew emulators.

That hardly depends on what you like. Mario Kart 8 is fun for me, for example. Ofc. I'm playing other games, too, but I see no point in listing them.

You need the sensor bar (in case it's not included in your deal already) and a Wii Mote for vWii stuff. A LAN adapter is also a good idea cause of the weak WiFi of the Wii U.

Yes, that's improved: You're able to inject Wii and GCN games (Teconmoons Injector). This allows you to install them like any Wii U game, so onto the same HDD and they will even appear on the Wii U menu. GCN games and Wii games supporting classic controllers will even be able to be played on the gamepad this way.
You also need a SDHC card preferably a 64GB to install games.
I won't agree to this cause NUSspli is able to install games from USB. So yes, you need a SD card but size isn't that important.

//EDIT: Except for the LAN adapter don't use 3rd party accessories as they will have issues. For the LAN adapter you need one with the correct chipset (there's a relative cheap one from UGREEN).

@V10lator, oh you're the developer of NUSspli, I've totally forgotten about this tool and I'm assuming this is like the PKGj of the PS Vita on the Wii U.

I found your NUSspli thread, but as I'm a complete noob, idk how to install it on my Wii U as there's no step by step tutorial guide and in the GitHub download page idk which one to download or what to do with the downloaded files:

This is a really convenient homebrew tool to have, I wish I knew this sooner and only bought a 32GB SDHC card to save money.

Can you please help me? Once I install this I can delete USBHelper as it's inconvenient using the SDHC to install games.

Oh yeah I launch homebrew channel via my mii maker app.

This is really off-topic / would fit better to the NUSspli thread but anyway: Either you extract the HBL version (NUSspli-1.109-HBL.zip) to /wiiu/apps/ on your SD card or you install the Channel version (NUSspli-1.109-Channel.zip) with WUP Installer. Which of the two options to use depends on personal preference.

Hi thanks for your quick reply, I did as you instructed, the Nusspli folder to wii u/apps on SD card but there's an error so have to post on your Nusspli thread.

How good are the compatibility for those gc and wii injects?
