So I finally took the plunge and migrate from SXOS to the latest Atmosphere. So far so good. But now I can't seem to get USB install to work. Tried both Tinfoil and DBI. I am suspecting it's a driver issue so let me confirm by asking everyone here:

If you connect your Switch to a PC after the Switch is powered up (post RCM), do you get a new device show up in the device manager (and if so what is it)? My Switch doesn't show up at all on the PC. And Tinfoil (nut server) and DBI both fail to see the Switch, even though it's connected via a USB-C cable.

The reason why I don't think it's a cable problem is b/c 1) my PC sees the Switch just fine in RCM mode 2) I can use USB tools to browse/copy/delete SD content in Hekate. ...Yet after Atmosphere/Horizon loads up, the Switch is all but invisible to the PC...

And I already have libusbk 3.1 driver installed via Zadig. Tinfoil driver is installed as well (but not sure if it actually does anything as I don't see it anywhere in Device Manager).

I am on the latest of everything: 14.1.2/ATM1.3.2E, Tinfoil 14/Nut Server 3.3, DBI 368. And I am on Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks.

use zadig 2.5 , not the latest version, install the driver libusK ( v3.0.7.0) , whilst switch is hooked up to pc , in dbi app on the switch , hit install title from usb , zadig should see it as a dbi device in all devices

Thanks. I suppose the million dollar question is when do you install the driver libusk, when the switch is in RCM mode or in "regular" operational mode? If it's installing in RCM mode, already tried that. The issue I am facing is PC can't see the switch in "regular" mode, hence I am unable to install any type of drivers for USB operations, zadig or otherwise.

Should still be the libusbk driver for DBI or Tinfoil as well. The Tinfoil dev even has a pre-packaged installer for it. The issue is that windows doesn't automatically pick the driver, you have to pick it manually in device manager or use one of the apps above to switch it.

Drivers installation one time setup:
1 Download Zadig (https://zadig.akeo.ie/) for me worked any from 2.3 to 2.7
2 Open Goldleaf, AtmoXL Titel Installer or DBI and connect your Switch via USB with your PC
3 Open Zadig
4 Click "Options" and select "List all devices"
5 Select the Switch from the drop-down menu
6 Change the driver (right next to the green arrow) to "libusbK"
7 Click on the button below "Install WCID Driver" or "Replace Driver"
8 Done. Now you can use any installer to directly access your PC!

I did generate the attached installers the first time I hack my switch, still works on my new Windows 11 machine. they can be downloaded from:

Solved. I figured out the issue. It was the cable after all. The one I've been using is a Usb-a to usb-c cable, and it worked fine over the years in RCM mode as I injected payloads since 2019. On a hunch I pulled out my usb-c to usb-c cable, and used a little usb-c to usb-a converter/cap thingy I bought it on the cheap from Amazon. I knew I was on the right track when I see the device manager updates itself when I plug in the Switch in normal operation mode (the previous cable does nothing).

Tinfoil still has issues as the nut server shows connected but no files are displayed under usbfs. DBI worked just fine. I am gonna stick with DBI MTP responder mode for now as that seems to be the most versatile tool.

In summary, a good cable will allow the switch to be recognized by the PC in both RCM mode and regular operational mode.

Btw., does installing an update BEFORE installing the actual game itself matter? Just curious.

Update: screw nut server/dbi backend server. IMO they just make things unnecessarily complicated. MTP mode works well for both Tinfoil and DBI.

Lastly, apparently usb-c to usb-c cable + amazon usb-c to usb-A works wonders. I now got usb install to work on Windows 11 PC as well (straight up usb-c to usb-c cabling doesn't work).

Last update: apparently USB-C cables are not all created equal. I've gone through cables that:

1) work in RCM mode, can charge, not recognized by PC/Tinfoil/DBI
2) work in RCM mode, can not charge, not recognized by PC/Tinfoil/DBI
3) work in RCM mode, can charge, recognized by PC/Tinfoil/DBI, but MTP transfer/install just hangs
4) work in RCM mode, can charge, recognized by PC/Tinfoil/DBI, and can actually transfer/install in MTP mode

Yup. USB-C standarization is screwed up, so you have many variants of those cables.
Switch should be fully compatible with all Power Delivery compatible cables (the ones with orange plastics inside USBs on both sides)
