i'm thinking of buying a cheap hdd 6tb with usb 3.0 and that maxes at 5 gbps but i'm not entirely sure if it's usable in 9.00 and if it would be the best choice over an ssd aside from that i wanted to ask a few questions about modding the console

can you explain about not install to internal?
I replaced mine 500GB HDD and installed 1TB SSD and installed all my pkg there, I'm not using external drive for anything.
is that wrong/unsafe?

If your ps4 were to fail, you can just move an extended storage to a new system.

Internal is 2TB max without messing around with the casing, you can always get a 5TB drive if you want to use external drive without power supply. 6TB is 3.5 only, there is no 2.5 form factor. As suggested just use it as extended storage.

i meant what is better to use for internal storage? SSD or HDD?
SSD is 'the best', faster, less heat, no moving parts etc.
The bad thing is the price!

I have a 4tb ssd in my Pro and it works great, but like godreborn mentioned, if something were to happen to my machine, I can't use that internal drive with another PS4, because it is encrypted to that specific console. (HDD or SSD, this does not change)

If you use the drive externally (with hacks), and your PS4 dies, you can use that same external drive with another hacked PS4.
This is good because then you don't need to install all those games again :)
