HD remaster of 'Legend of Mana' gets launch trailer

Launching today on the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Steam is the HD remaster of Legend of Mana. Square Enix released a short gameplay trailer for the occasion:

In Legend of Mana, players will embark on a journey to find the mystical Mana Tree seen in a dream, only to discover that the world map is empty. Throughout their adventure, they will acquire special artifacts, which can be placed on the map to bring towns and dungeons to life via the unique Land Creation system. Players can also capture eggs and hatch pet monsters to help with battles, and progress through the story in different ways based on the choices they make, offering a more personal and unique gameplay experience.

This HD remaster not only features enhanced visuals but also a rearrangement of selected songs from the original soundtrack as well as the new “Ring Ring Land'' mini-game. In fact, the latter becomes available to the West for the first time.

Legend of Mana is now available digitally for $29.99 on the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Steam.

Really not worth it to be honest. The mini-game doesn't add any core value to the story other than to train and care for your pets similar to Tomagochi's concept. The soundtrack rearrangement does sound intriguing, though. I'd love to see someone make a comparison to see what the differences are.
The better idea would be to put the arrangements into the... oh wait this is a playstation one game.

I was thinking that since they have that msu-1 thing on snes, you can replace the music with the remaster. But it's playsation... so I don't know if you can replace the music in that version. :P

So, that's it. Just the ability to pick between OG and remastered songs similar to the other "remasters"?

For good and bad is the exact same game, warts and all, just with better graphics and sound. A shame, not gonna buy the same game if they did not fix anything.

This game makes me think of Dark Cloud, with the whole world building stuff. I never played it, and will probably check it out.

And yes, I know this game came out before Dark Cloud.

People cry about remasters but after Trials of Mana got fucking butchered in the streets with its remake, it's a lot safer the Mana series stick to remasters.

Still better than that shitty Secret of Mana remake.

If they reworked the characters, expect FFVI mobile quality.

I'd rather watch a dental operation on YouTube than play FFVI mobile

Ay, might finally be time to play this then, been pondering some time before after a video from Austin Eruption got me in the mood for it, ha.
Nintendo use compression because they have magic. :P
Or simply they stick to older hardware with less powerful graphic output, so their games tend to be smaller compared to others, lol

I only played a bit of it but I don't think the Secret of Mana remake was bad by any stretch. Maybe a bit mediocre (and them not going for online even though that would've been the selling point for me was really disappointing) but overall I think it was pretty nice for what it was. I enjoyed some of the remixes too, would play more if I owned it, probably.

I like the original soundtrack, the bosses seemed to easy in the remake

Or maybe is nintendo compression magic. :ninja:

We talking about a port of a ps1 game to switch that is 5.1GB. Compared to final fantasy 8 remastered which is 2.7GB and FF7 which is over 3GB, as listed on nintendo eshop. That's absurd. Those games are originally 3-4 disc big on a ps1 and legend of mana is only a single disc. The game is even listed as a ps1 classic for ps3 and psp on playstation network. File size is less than 500MB because the game is compressed. Sure this remaster features some arranged music and that pocket station game that was exclusive to japan as well as some improved assets making it widescreen and HD. But I doubt that's enough to make it that much bigger than other ps1 games already available on the same system featuring lower file size.

Read the big post above this one
Lol, yeah, was half-joking a bit, but you do gotta admit that Nintendo does cheap out a bit on their hardware (durifto master), so would say that has a bit of going for too.

And yeah, guess they didn't compress anything and just left everything in like super ultra 4k hd or what for the graphics and the bestest audio quality that can be, dunno.
Like, seen some videogames osts in FLAC that maybe had like 10 tracks but would be big around 2 gigabytes. Bet its the audio that's not compressed at all.
Regarding the FF remasters or something, didn't those had like midi audio or what? Or am I thinking about the original ports?

I can't complain I never played the game but I'll add it to my list. This looks like Star Ocean Second Story

well kinda...
I've been waiting for a remaster of this game for quite a while. Loved playing it on my PS back in 99'. Doesn't have a Star Ocean feel much at all. Its more of an arcade action side-scroller with SOME top-down town rpg exploration. Weapon crafting, button sequence moves, skill learning. There are a number of things that make this game unique. I've been playing this in my emulator on a 7 inch screen so that the pixels don't show too much.
