Datel SD Media Launcher is a software – but it comes with a SD-Gecko. @Archerite pointed out the problem: The software is limited to 2GB SDs which is not really helpful.I'm still confused as to whether the SD-Gecko is necessarily the same as the SD Media Launcher. I wish there was a comprehensive guide for all this stuff; there seems to be so much outdated information circulating.
I'll say. You can still buy the official Datel product for less than that: https://www.codejunkies.com/Products/SD-Media-Launcher__EF000580V.aspx .
The article https://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Booting_Homebrew is up to date as far as I can tell. Do you think it requires some more detailed guide or tutorial? Shouldn't be a problem to create one.
Indeed a nice thing. But to be honest $59 for a (passive) SD adapter and a Mini-DVD containing open source software is expensive. I understand that the equipment for producing the discs isn't exactly cheap. The question is if this makes sense compared to GCLoader.[…]If that expensive disk boots directly into swiss with bigger SD card support....it could be an option.
Very disappointing that the idea over here wasn't feasible. Modifying a consumer DVD writer to get full control over the laser does sound pretty cool.
