Guides to The Beatles: Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band Added to Wiki!

After debating whether I should build guides for those titles, and having done a few tests on TB:RB myself, I decided that a similar method for RB3 would also work for both of those titles. So, I basically did a copy-and-paste job there, but at least they finally exist! Eventually, I will add the method to the RB3 part of the Basic Guide on getting RB3 DLC to work, but I also added some instructions for ripping Wii discs using CleanRip. Here's hoping that all works out!

Read the Guide for The Beatles: Rock Band - Read the Guide for Green Day: Rock Band

As always, read the previous steps thoroughly before attempting to hack these titles!

GitLab Wiki Updated - Basic Guide Now "Fancier"

Just improved on my wiki a bit, in the hopes that it would be more pleasing to the eye, as well as adding a few more notes and fixing more typos and dead links. I also added a couple of images! I may have to do more with the guides for TB:RB and GD:RB, so I didn't touch them yet.

Also, GBAtemp users @Larsenv and @DarkMatterCore are working on an interesting new way to get Rock Band DLC and customs working when launching via the Disc Channel, among other tests. I won't say too much more until they've got something working, so stay posted! If you have questions for them about their contributions for Rock Band Customs, I suggest contacting them via my RBC Discord.

GitLab Wiki Updated - Rock Band 3, The Beatles, and Green Day Now More Concise

I've added some additional info on getting DLC that one obtains unofficially working, as well as a warning about cache for The Beatles: Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band at the end of their respective wiki pages. Thanks to TrashRBPlayer from Customs Creators for that cache warning! I was not aware of this myself, as I haven't fully tested this out.

A few days ago, I also refreshed the home page and sidebar some. I just forgot to report that, if anyone noticed and wondered if it was editing itself. :P

GitLab Wiki Updated - Two New DLC Lists!

Finally! After a loooong break from the monotony of typing in numbers and other info by hand, I've completed the sZDE/sZDP list! I also jumped ahead one generation and finished the sZFE/sZFP list, as well, since it's small and easy to tackle. I have yet to number the songs in sZEE/sZEP, but I'll get to it eventually. I also want to create the lists for RB3 DLC, but I need more references before I can begin those.

Anyhow, here are the new lists!

Generation 4 (sZDE/sZDP): https://gitlab.com/HarvHouHacker/ro...LC-By-Generation/Rock-Band-2-DLC-Generation-4
Generation 6 (sZFE/sZFP): https://gitlab.com/HarvHouHacker/ro...LC-By-Generation/Rock-Band-2-DLC-Generation-6

A BIG thanks (again!) to Custom Creators user StackOverflow0x for the awesome "cheat sheet" that helped me make my lists on my GitLab Wiki! Hopefully, I'm bringing this old stuff more up to date with these great new guides and software! :D

Rock Band Customs Discord - Now Accepting Support for Other Harmonix Game Hacks/Customs (Including Guitar Hero!)

Hey, fellow video game rockers! As you all know, I deal predominantly with collecting homebrew, customs and DLC for Wii editions of Rock Band, but since I got several key players in Rock Band homebrew development involved in my Discord server (including Customs Creators administrator Farottone, author of several C3 tools StackOverflow0x, and GBAtemp's own software developers @Larsenv and @DarkMatterCore), the server expanded to Rock Band on all platforms.

Now, it has expanded further. I keep getting users who join the server asking about Guitar Hero customs. I don't deal with Guitar Hero customs either, but I've considered adding channels for such. Now it's official - several channels have been added that offer limited support of customs and hacks to other Harmonix games! This includes Guitar Hero (all editions, all platforms), and also Audica, Karaoke Revolution, Amplitude, and Dance Central.

Please be aware that we are covering ONLY HARMONIX GAMES, GUITAR HERO, AND PHASE SHIFT! This does NOT include games like Just Dance, which is developed by Ubisoft. For a list of games developed by Harmonix that RBC Discord is willing to offer limited support for, check this Wikipedia list (exclude Rock Band titles; they already have their own channels in the server).

About Guitar Hero Customs and Hacks

Guitar Hero was originally developed and maintained by Harmonix, but after they left it up to Activision to maintain the series when Harmonix was bought by MTV in 2007, it would go through many other developers. If you had any doubts, my Discord server covers ALL of those versions, from the first Guitar Hero up to Guitar Hero Live.

What is Phase Shift?

For those who don't know, Phase Shift is an open-source rhythm application based off of the popular (now defunct) open-source Guitar Hero clone FretsOnFire. I include it because there is a thread by FretsOnFire Fan Forum user Bluzer which includes all the songs of every Rock Band title, modified for Phase Shift. For anyone who knows what that is and have used it, RBC Discord has support channels for that!

Playstation and Xbox GitLab Repos next?

I'm sure there are people who have been wondering, but never asked me, the burning question: "When will Harvey have repos of Rock Band Custom software for Playstation and Xbox consoles?" Well, there are various reasons that I don't have them, but the biggest reason is that I do not own ANY Playstation or Xbox consoles. To have such, I would need to work with others who do have them to collect the appropriate software and make the guides. This leads to my next point: No one has asked me to do such a thing, nor do I really care enough to do it myself. Besides, there are already awesome guides out there that work for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, so I feel that this isn't really necessary. However, if someone wants to join Rock Band Customs' non-profit hacking and custom song scene, then I'm all for that! I can even create a GitLab group dedicated to such - but for now, I prefer that PS and Xbox users use RBC Discord.

That being said, I may create Rock Band Customs threads in the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 "Hacking and Homebrew" sections of GBAtemp, but only if others want it. So far, I haven't needed them yet, as a lot of PS and Xbox users are in Discord or C3 asking the pertinent questions, but if the need arises, then I'll do it.

Unfinished Projects, and HarvHouHackerHiatus

I'll be going on a holiday vacation sometime this month, and I won't be active again until mid-January. Before I go, though, I'd like to work some on The Beatles: Rock Band and see if I can find out what makes Abbey Road work in NewkTV's guide that was taken down due to warez. I also have yet to get Rock Band 2 to accept either DLC or customs in vWii, so I'm looking for a solution there too. Regardless, I hope you all have a Happy Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

God bless you all, and continue to ROCK ON! :D :hrth:

IMPORTANT! Availability Changes

Hey, fellow Rock Banders! There's a lot going on in my life right now, and I really need a break. In the event that something happens to my account, I've pushed my availability to assist in Rock Band hacking forward into the beginning of February.

If you want to learn more about what I think may happen next year, please visit my profile page. Nothing bad is happening; I reassure you. I just need more time to plan things out. Thanks for understanding. ROCK ON!

Wow, that’s what I call bad timing. I will have some free days from tomorrow on and I planned to integrate the RB1 and the Track Packs into my RB3 via SD card method. I hope I will succeed without further help from you. Thanks a lot and all the best!

Note: This is an update being posted during my vacation time. If you need me for live help, I will be available sometime in mid-February (after Valentine's Day).

GitLab Wiki Updates

Hello, Rock Banders! I promise I haven't abandoned this thread, and to prove it, I've got some details to share with you.

Ethan Gordon (Discord user "Miramur") has contributed to my GitLab wiki by adding the Rock Band 3 DLC generations (A through D), as well as an interesting guide on how to add back the official Wii DLC using downloaders that are available through my Discord and other sites (which we can thank Rudi Rastelli for). He'll be helping me with my wiki from now on, proofreading and contributing new material.

For vWii users, Miramur has added the link to wiiu.hacks.guide, a wiki site for hacking the Wii U and installing essential homebrew. If you find that some of the hacks on WiiBrew.org are a bit cumbersome (some do work, like BatHaxx, but are intended for the Wii and not vWii), you may want to try the Wii U Hacks Guide setup.

Miramur is in my RBC Discord server now, so if you need help with anything Wii, I suggest asking him. He seems to know about this kind of thing quite a bit, so feel free to ask away!

Rhythm Gaming World - The NEW Customs Creators!

If you go to customscreators.com, or click on any link that references that domain, you will be surprised to find that it redirects you to a Wordpress-powered site called Rhythm Gaming World.

Does this mean that C3 is dead? No! It's the new Customs Creators!

Rhythm Gaming World was created (by pksage, Farottone, MrPrezident, and others) to cover more games other than just Rock Band. It features coverage on various other Harmonix properties (including the recently-released Fuser game), and also covers other rhythm games like Spin Rhythm XD (more notably its custom song site SpinShare) and Phase Shift (based on the opensource PC game FretsOnFire, which in turn was based on Guitar Hero).

Want to find the old forums? It's still there - just use the tabs to navigate to Forums > C3 Forums. If you had an account on C3, it's there too - but you'll have to update it.
  1. Click the profile icon in the upper right corner (the person silhouette in a circle).
  2. Type in all of your information again. If you find that it's not accepting your password, click "Forget?" and follow the steps to create a new one.
  3. Complete the Captcha puzzle to confirm you are a human.
  4. Click Login, and there you go!

Some things haven't been added back fully yet, like an "About Me" page, but all your posts and threads will appear in your history. You'll also want to resend friend requests to anyone you were friends with previously, and re-add your profile photo and avatar.

New Year, New Ideas!

Looking at my GitLab repo, I suddenly realized just how lacking and confusing it really is. Here, I've been trying to make it more concise and easy to understand, but instead, it has only become more complicated.

So, I may be redoing some things related to my wiki, and possibly the entire repo itself. I've also considered joining RGW (the aforementioned Rhythm Gaming World) staff for editorials and such, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen yet.

However, I do need help, so here's what I'm proposing. If you want to help me with my GitLab repo and wiki, then here's what I require:
  • Have a GitLab account. If you don't have a GitLab account, you'll need to make one. Note that GitLab also allows integration from other repo sites like GitHub, so if you have software you want to migrate to my repo from another repo, GitLab should be able to import it. If not, just fork my project and add the files by hand.
  • Join RBC Discord. In order to diagnose problems on the fly, you'll need to come to my Discord server. Again, if you don't have a Discord account, you can make one easily. Just make sure I know where you're coming from and what you're purpose is, so I can also add you to my GitLab project.
  • Know what you're doing! If you haven't successfully added customs to any consoles, then why are you joining? I'm not just talking about Wii or vWii - I also mean Xbox and Playstation! You need to have some experience with hacking consoles and adding customs to Rock Band editions before I can consider you for my project. Who knows, it may expand... Hmm, well, I better not let that spill just yet. :ninja:

That's really it. GitLab, Discord, and knowledge. You have these three things, then you pretty much qualify, however the final decision will be made by yours truly. Let me know what you'd like to do, and I'll see what GitLab role to give you.

Welp, that's all I can report on for now! God bless, and KEEP ROCKIN'! :hrth:

GitLab Wiki Updated - Customs Creators Links Now Replaced With Rhythm Gaming World!

Yep, you read that right. I went through my entire wiki just to make sure there weren't any links that would take you to this irritating "Custom Creators has moved!" page. Now, all the links to the appropriate tools should work, but if I forgot one, let me know, please!

Other edits include a partial rewrite of the Basic Guide, which describes more in detail about terms, exploits and homebrew. Hopefully, it doesn't seem too wordy, but I just want everyone to find it easy to use and understand. Also, I've elaborated more on how you can hack and add DLC to Rock Band on the Wii Mini - not sure if that works or not, but hey! Someone ought to try it out.

...That's about it, but there's more coming soon. The suspense! :P

GitLab Repo Updated - Refreshed and Added To!

Hey there, Wii Rock Band fans! I've got a big update for you, today: a repo update! It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here! I guess I don't have to tell you to download a new ZIP, or use git pull to get the new repo stuff, do I?

So, what changed exactly? Let's see:
  • Existing files have been reorganized. Notice how the DLC packers are smaller? You're probably thinking, "Where did all the files go?" They're still there - there's a new folder called Base Files in both the NTSC and PAL branches, where files shared by each and every packer are now located. To use these files, just copy them into the packers you want to use. I also attempted to fix sZGE - someone on Discord told me that the packer was corrupt. Finally, the software in the Master branch are now organized by Windows software and Wii homebrew.
  • WAD Unpacker added. You have WAD Packer, which packs APP files into WADs and (with a valid console ID) BINs, but what about a WAD UNpacker? Well, one has been added to each of the DLC Packers' branches! Now you can do just the reverse - unpack a WAD and turn it back into APPs. This is better than trying to install all the DLC of a content generation at once, because now you have more freedom to pick and choose!
  • OGG2MOGG added. MahoppianGoon's DLC Tools can be useful, but let's face it - his version of OGG2MOGG just plain doesn't work right. Now, you can use Onyxite's latest stand-alone OGG2MOGG program! Take an OGG, turn it into a working MOGG - no need to mess with MOGG headers, anymore!
  • Parannoyed's Recrypter added. This is the DLC Packer/Unpacker well known by RawkSD users, and by those who have been following my Rock Band Customs Project! It now has a permanent home within the GitLab repo.

Soon, the wiki will be edited to reflect the changes, but for now, if you have questions on how to use the new software, just ask here or on Discord.

GitLab Repo Updated - Rock Band Harmonies Project Branches Removed

Hey, everyone! Just a quick update to start your day: The Rock Band Harmonies Project branches in the repo Rock Band Customs -- Wii - vWii - Dolphin have been removed. This would be the branches DLC_From_RB1, DLC_From_RB2, DLC_From_LRB, RBN_DLC_2007, RBN_DLC_2008, RBN_DLC_2009, RBN_DLC_2010, and RBN_DLC_UGC.

Part of this has to do with PROJECT DELUXE (you'll see why soon! ;) ), but it's also because the branches were named wrong. I assumed many mistakes when I started my project, of which I came to understand better while working with a great community of people.

First off, the RBHP files I got from Koetsu (which you know better as StackOverflow0x on RGW/C3 and RBC Discord) I mistakenly thought were parts of DLC. After careful research, I've since learned that these are upgrades for songs released before Rock Band 3, so that they will have things like Keytar and Pro Guitar support in Rock Band 3. For the Wii/vWii, they would be applied to songs in the generations sZAE through sZFE, as well as on-disc songs that are imported as customs for RB3. Thus, the Rock Band Harmonies Project files are ONLY for Rock Band 3, and are not intended to enhance DLC or customs for Rock Band 2, The Beatles: Rock Band, and Green Day: Rock Band, as well as other Rock Band titles with DLC on other platforms.

Secondly, I was still convinced that Rock Band, LEGO Rock Band, and other titles had their on-disc setlists released on RB3, but it wasn't until I actually got a hold of the RB3 DLC that I noticed that only two titles made it to RB3. So the DLC_From_RB branches were actually meant to apply to songs pulled from the actual Rock Band game discs and injected as customs.

Lastly, I was confused as to what the Rock Band Network actually applied to. I guessed it was to all DLC, but then I read what the RBN really was. According to Wikipedia and various people on C3, the RBN was a way for indie artists to have their songs promoted; it also promoted songs by members of Harmonix who had their own rock bands. For the Wii/vWii, only songs from the first RBN edition (RBN 1.0) were made available, and then only a small amount. You can find all the RBN DLC that made it to the Wii/vWii in the sZFE generation (this wiki page should help), and it was literally just 24 songs.

Also, because the RBHP already exists on GitHub, I've wrestled with simply removing the old RBHP branches in my repo for a while. I've now finally done it, but only because I'm preparing for something bigger...

MAJOR UPDATES!!! PROJECT DELUXE has Finally Been Revealed!

The Rock Band Customs Project is expanding! After tireless hours of research and building, I have finally accomplished something greater - an official GitLab Group! This is an exciting landmark for the project, as now the project can broaden its horizons to hacks on other consoles.

NEW LOCATION for the Rock Band Customs Wii/vWii/Dolphin Repo!

The stand-alone repo which was Rock Band Customs -- Wii - vWii - Dolphin has been moved into the Rock Band Customs Project GitLab Group, and is now simply titled Wii - vWii - Dolphin. As we expand our horizons, we'll open more support threads here on GBAtemp that covers RBC on other platforms.

You can find the repo here: https://gitlab.com/rock-band-customs/wii-vwii-dolphin

Please Note: This thread always has, and will continue to be, for Rock Band hacks for Wii-based consoles and platforms. Do NOT ask for support in this thread for other systems.

The Rock Band Customs Project - Official Website!

Finally, after tireless hours of coding, we now have an all-purpose website hosted by GitLab! Thanks to CI/CD and GitLab Pages, I've managed to design a website made purely of HTML5 and CSS - no Javascript, no PHP. Just some basic documents that will hopefully help in understanding our goals, as well as offer assistance on authoring your own customs. Of course, C3 has a really great wiki that you should also check out, for some advanced knowledge of customs, but hopefully this site will cover all the basics.

A lot of the info is written with Wii/vWii customs in mind, but it should work with PS3 and Xbox 360 customs, as well. If you have problems, or think I made a mistake, let me know!

You can find the official site here: https://rock-band-customs.gitlab.io/index.html

Old Rock Band Harmonies Project Files - Now In Their Own Repo!

Looking for the old RBHP files from the Wii/vWii repo? You can find them here, now: https://gitlab.com/rock-band-customs/rbhp-old

Coming Soon - Playstation 3 Repo and Wiki!

I know, those big buttons on our site that are supposed to lead to PS3 and Xbox 360 GitLab repos and wikis don't go anywhere, but I'm currently building a wiki for Playstation 3 customs, from various threads I found on C3 Forums and PSX Place. Despite not owning a PS3 myself, I'm learning all I can to try to get custom songs to work on those platforms. Once the repo goes live, a thread for it will be made.

Thanks for your patience! ROCK ON, Rock Band Lovers! :hrth: :grog: :toot:

Can't believe the amount of work and time you're putting into this. I think I speak for the whole community if I say: Thank you very much!
Of course to all others who worked along with you as well. Great stuff!

It's been a while, since I haven't actually worked too heavily on Wii Rock Band ever since opening up the repo for PS3, but here goes...

Where Are Rudi's Downloaders?

Okay, so the million dollar question: Why did I take the links to Rudi Rastelli's DLC Downloaders down on Discord? The answer is simple: to prevent a piracy warning from forum sites - mainly the Custom Creators Collective, or C3.

You see, C3 is much more sensitive about piracy talk than GBAtemp is. While they allow custom songs for consoles, they would NEVER allow articles about game dumps or encryption breaking. My Discord server deals with abandonware (i.e. all the DLC for Rock Band titles on the Wii, as well as the delisted game Rock Band Blitz on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360), and I had references throughout my GitLab wiki on how to obtain the Rock Band DLC and add it back to the games.

C3 wouldn't allow that, or any talk of doing that ever, probably because they've had problems with it before:

Screenshot 2021-05-01 15:47:24.png
Farottone, one of the admins on Rhythm Gaming World, actually posted this message years ago, despite the recent time stamp.

Screenshot 2021-05-01 15:53:34.png
Pksage, who pretty much founded C3, tells users of Rhythm Gaming World that official Rock Band content of any kind is NOT allowed on C3.

In contrast to these warnings, while there is a "No Warez" policy here on GBAtemp, the fact is, GBAtemp covers talk of material that C3 would never allow, for instance the NUS Downloader, a tool to download all available WiiWare and content from the Nintendo Update Servers, is offered free to download here. Such a tool would NOT be allowed on C3, as it is considered piracy promotion.

HarvHouHacker Gets In Trouble

So, I had this really great thread that I was trying to get approved by the mods. Here's a preview:
(Insert Rock Band Customs Project banner logo here)
ABOUT THIS THREAD
This is a general support thread on Rhythm Gaming World for the Rock Band Customs Project. You may comment in this thread to:
  • Ask about custom songs for Rock Band using the software in this repo.
  • Ask questions about my GitLab repositories and wikis, and how to use these on custom songs from the C3 Database.
  • Link to a related thread where you may have questions on using our software and guides.

Sounds good, yes? It seems to support C3's own terms of service quite well, right? Well, that's not what one moderator thought.

I tried to explain it to him about my intentions (forgive the HTML tags; their site is very much broken and inconsistent about where all you can post tags and stuff):

I also tried to get the admins and mods involved, but they never responded, either because they don't care, or they're way too busy with other things to handle my requests (they seem under-staffed, since most of the content of RGW is still broken or missing, and the site was refreshed literally around New Year's). Since I never got a response, I decided to take it upon myself to do a "piracy purge", or remove all links and references to abandonware publicly.

Therefore, all my GitLab documents, and any messages visible on Discord, now do not have links or references to official Rock Band DLC. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

So, Again, Where Are The Downloaders?

For any of you who follow me here on GBAtemp and also have joined my Discord server, I would suggest sending me a DM on Discord. I still am offering the downloaders, just not where everyone can see them. Please understand; I don't want to cause any more headaches. Also, you're still free to talk about DLC, packers, Arktools, etc. here on GBAtemp, but just remember their "No Wares" policy in their Terms and Rules. If in doubt, ask a mod!

Just don't do what I did on C3, since apparently they're more strict than here. Again, if you don't know what to post on C3, ask a mod. Expect delayed responses, though.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
