Next-Gen Poll: PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?

xbox based on specs for sure but game library and game history wise sony by a longggggggggg shot it isnt even close I never enjoyed the exclusive box games

I already have a PC with GamePass so I dont really need the Series X for now. Unless theres a game that I really want that will be exclusive to the Series X. So I will be buying the PS5.

I choose xbox. I've always had a PS but now when I look at full backward compatibility, I choose xbox. I'll play a lot of games like Gears of War and it's all for not a lot of money. Additionally, they announced Fable from Play Ground, so I know it will be great. The only exes I got on PS4 were spiderman and Uncharted 4. I started playing the rest and never finished any of them so I don't think I have to buy PS in my case.

Just a small footnote here for anyone who is interested in the strategy behind these things:

Microsoft's next-gen console is not the Xbox Series X. Microsoft's next-gen console is Game Pass itself. Series X is just one potential path to that for those who are interested. A better comparison here would be who is getting a PS5 versus who is getting Game Pass.

There are already rumors about them doing away with Xbox Live Gold. xCloud streaming is going to be included with Game Pass. They've already verified that all first-party titles this holiday will be coming to Game Pass, day one. They have gone on record saying that they really don't care where you play the games - be it PC, phone, console, smart TV, otherwise.

Between Sony and Microsoft, the latter is really (IMHO) doing more to innovate this generation. Sony is just plodding along the same ol' spec-bump route. For more traditional gamers, this "more of the same" may be attractive. Personally, though, I'm ready for something new.

Microsoft's approach is new and different enough that it may actually have long-lasting impacts on how the industry operates.

Is a subscription service that gives you access to a wide library of games really anything new, though? Pretty sure EA and Ubisoft both did it before Microsoft, not to mention all the streaming services that came even earlier.

For now im fine with my old xbox one, both of the presentations dissapointed me. There is no need to buy new generation in 2021. After "Beta tests" i would buy slim version, for now im more into ps5. Im hoping for some black friday sale to Nintendo switch lite, there are alot quality games there.

Series X by default. Bc involved is a big selling point already; and Sony went out of its way to burn its bridges with me by continually selling me unreliable consoles. That said, wish emulation for ps3 and 360 was worth a crap on PC.

PS5 for me, but at least not before late 2022. The only game that interests me for now is Demon's Souls Remake (never played the original). I buy Japanese games only so I'll wait until a good number of JRPGs/Action games will be available.
Also, after 3 years, the moment to upgrade my PC is approaching. I'll get a new Ryzen and RTX 3080 Ti. A modern PC is going to blow Series X out of the water specs wise and all Microsoft exclusive games are going to be available on PC too. If there will be an interesting game for me among them (zero announced as of now), I'll gladly buy it for PC to enjoy the maximum performances. I don't care for Xbox BC so in my situation getting a Series X doesn't make any sense at all.

Even then, the game pass library has little to nothing I even care to play. Anything I'd be interested in, I've already played through. It's a joke compared to PS Now for both pricing and content.

Game Pass for both XB and PC - $20 a month. Currently 376 titles.
Game Pass for XB - $10 a month. Currently 242 titles.
Game Pass for PC - $10 a month. Currently 196 titles.
VS.
PS Now for both PS and PC - $10 a month. Currently over 800 titles.

I own a very good PC (3600 + RTX2070), a Switch with Atmos, but I really want a XBOX Series X.
Better than PS5, retrocompatible, and probably cheaper. I love the interface of the One too.

PS5 and XboxSeX won't be matched by a PC for at least a generation. Maybe if you spend 3-4x the cash. But they'll only hold that crown for a few years. That's not to say a PC doesn't offer more flexibility and usability, just know there are valid reasons to pick a console, mainly due to power and cost. It's whatever works for you.

I've never been interested in the Xbox line of consoles, even thought they've had a bunch of games I really wanted. It just wasn't enough to warrant the expense. So I would go with PS5, eventually.
It took until 2020 until I even played the PS4 (and got one :wub:

I will surely buy XSX as it is the most powerful and fast console in the world!! Not only I will be able to play the libraries that I own but also the ones that will come for free on gamepass.

Looking forward on playing Forza Horizon 4 at 120fps..

Sorry for ps users who will still be playing 30fps games in their console :rofl2:

Consoles support more application layer stuff then ever before, media player apps etc. And many devs are using very high level game engines that keep them away from the low level code that would benefit them optimizing just one hardware configuration.

Meanwhile PC is catching up with low level APIs like Vulkan and DX12 which can bring devs much closer to metal. So the gap is narrower, sure consoles are still more efficient, but I think you are overstating the efficiency of console game development a bit much.

As for hardware, the only thing ahead of its time is the PS5 SSD, which is marginally faster than the best NVME drives on PC. PCIE 4.0 NVME drives will soon be available for PC that can match it. Higher wattage CPUs are already way ahead of the Zen2 in the new consoles and much higher teraflop GPUs from Nvidia have been available (for astronomical prices). New DLSS upscaling techniques from Nvidia are way ahead of AMD and console checkerboarding. Ray tracing will likely be pretty minimal on the new console hardware, but the new Nvidia cards out this fall will be way ahead in terms of Ray tracing acceleration, which will be before the console launch.

Obviously the cost of a PC that can beat the consoles will be orders of magnitude higher but nobody will have to wait generations to get them if they have the money.

Microsoft will probably become the next Sega, but continue to develop X Cloud. Sony couldn't stop making consoles, as that's one of their only successful ventures currently.
