I was originally planning to get the Series X, but Microsoft customer support have been beyond abysmal, not as bad as Sony, but fast approaching it.

One thing I will say is, it's strange that Microsoft is promoting as the most powerful console ever, which I suppose it is.

But then they intend to release less powerful console prior ot launch? The entire thing seems like deceitful, misleading tactics to me.

I can see a lot of people seeing the marketing of mist powerful console, seeing Xbox and Sony as usual, but noticing one of the X boxes.

In the past this has mostly been hard size or bundles differentiating the price tiers, but these u aware customers are likely to just buy the cheaper buying the Series X, not realising they have purchased an inferior console.

It sounds dumb to us, as we follow things and have an interest in the details, the majority of people don't.

I think this gen opening looks promising for xBox.

But personally, I know Sony will get as always more Japanese games, cause MS is not doing anything too special to get in Japanese market. So knowing my likes, I go for Sony once again.

PlayStation 5 first, that’ll be a launch day purchase for me. Another Spider-Man game? Eh, yeah. PlayStation has the majority of first-party exclusives I like (outside of Nintendo) so they’re my go-to.

But, if history has taught me anything, it’s that I’ll be buying both of them eventually.

4K UHD blu-ray is nice, I might go for a console with that. Not sure I'd buy any new system unless it has a good hack though, or a stupid low price. I have a pc connected to a TV, a console has to add something.

I have a hacked wii, wii u, 3ds,switch, with numerous original (expensive) controllers, and some original games, Nintendo can't complain much that I have only hacked consoles. I've paid good money to them.

Series X for me. Game Pass is a clincher, and PS Now still doesn't come close to it. Aesthetically the better machine by a mile , but neither really get any style points from me (Series X is at least better looking than vanilla Xbox One, but PS5.. just wtf..). Sony exclusives recently have been little more than 'good' (FFVIIR, TLOUII and Ghost being just that: 'good') Better BC, and (kinda related) I simply have a much better library of games on the Xbox side, especially digital.

...Eventually I'll get both... I've not missed a Sony/MS/Nintendo machine since the Virtual Boy. But yes it'll be the Series X first for me, and PS5 sometime later ...maybe when they release an all black version, hopefully!!

I'm the other side of the fence, Sony seem reluctant to give features users want and the interface is poor in comparison with the Xbox, Microaoft have slowly been moving toward a console / pc hybrid.

This is likely the starting point of their future service model where are console isnt required, but will likely still be made in some form.

I can see Microsoft continuing to merge their user bases, which are all quite large (well mobile is dead , but yeah).

They're supposed to be working on an Android OS, the flip / "foldable" tablet has been postponed, but will be out in future.

I don't think they envision gaming looking like it does now for much longer. The goal has always been to get as many people as possible into subscriptions for digital content, they don't physical possess, but must continue paying to retain access to.

The next layer of control is streaming. Much, much lower cost and much more control. In a few generations prices will begin increasing a lot, that is unless someone can compete with an alternative.

The only chance of this not happening, is if they choose the small margin but large volume route, therefore still large profits. But corps never do, especially without competition.

I just feel like PS4 we got the short end of the stick. On PS3 we had gotten GOW 3 and Assension , Uncharted 1-3 , Killzone 2-3, GT Prolouge and GT 5-6, I'll even throw in GTA Series even though that isn't a PS Exclusive we had gotten GTA IV , Episodes , and GTA V. This gen was lacking in quality content of games that's why I'm not getting a next gen now. WIll i get next gen absolutely but I'm more than likely will holdoff until it is year 3 or 4 after being released. Just incase they make a refined model like they did for the PS4 and Xbox One X I can buy that model versus buying 1 year after launch and year 3 they released the refined model. I will say I would of gladly bought a Series-X but i won't becasue of 2 reasons #1 the price is going to drop after a few months and #2 I already bought the S for $300 if gamestop gives me the option of giving me $250 for my S to put towoards the Series-X I will do it because that would be a good deal. Even if they give me $250 for my PS4 to upgrade to the PS5 I will do it also but i am not paying $500 full price for Next Gen.

    @smf
Some people are compulsive buyers they don't think far ahead about the future. This was why i never bought a PS4 pro because i didn't beleive in spending $400 again on a console just to play 4K.

Brazil is an incredible country with wonderful people, but unfortunately we have a horrible government and a donkey as president.

Very likely neither, honestly. I’m an Xbox guy, and Microsoft has taken the approach of “Xbox and PC connectivity.” Having recently gotten into PC gaming, I really struggle to see the reason to own a Series X as well.

Could you not Google this? There are PLENTY of articles explaining this for you. I'll just let you have a look rather than typing out a lengthy post. But outside of teraflops being an inaccurate & unreliable comparison in itself, you're also completely forgetting about things like the CPU clock, GPU clock, memory bandwidth, storage bandwidth, etc. Basically, you're acting like teraflops is the be all end all of power measurement. Even if the Series X is more powerful, who cares? The XB1/XB1X were both more powerful than the PS4/Pro, and we all know how that turned out.

While I think both consoles have done great getting cross-platform titles in greater number, the exclusives do make a difference. Until Microsoft starts investing into JRPGs like they tried with the 360 (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4, etc), I will stick with Sony and their Playstation series.

But I am not going to get a PS5 for a couple years. I got my PS4 in Fall 2018, and it has been doing well for itself. It's definitely best to wait a couple years to ensure they get any performance issues resolved. I made the mistake of getting a PS3 at launch. Given how powerful consoles are getting, that will never happen again.

I have always gone with Sony but Series X’s backwards compatibility excites me. I’ll be able to play all of the previous XBOX games I’ve missed out on over the years (and for cheap). Not getting either console at launch, though.

Whichever one has better backwards compatibility. Would love to see PS2 or Original Xbox games but it probably won't happen :(

Anything above $400 and it's destined to become a failure of the generation. I remember PS3 and how much of a chitshow it was. The main gaming target demographic isn't us adult gamers, we're just the minority. They have to sell these to the masses, and primarily 10-17 year olds. After 17, social life and responsibilities dominate time. Not many 15 year olds are going to be able to afford a $600 console, and parents aren't going to buy their kids something that expensive for Christmas either when there's way cheaper alternatives. Not to mention the amount of people who lost their jobs.

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

Sony would never allow backwards PS2 compatibility. They make way too much money off selling the games as PS2 classics. The abundance of the most popular gaming system of all time would put a huge hole in their revenue.
