There is no real technical difference between SDHC (4GB up to 32GB) and SDXC (64GB up to 2TB). The only difference is the mandatory default file system exFAT on SDXC. Many older devices are not compatible with exFAT (hence the official limit of 32GB) but will happily use 64GB and larger SDs when they are reformated to FAT32.

(Modern) Windows does not allow formatting drives larger than 32GB to FAT32 by default so use a third-party application like guiformat.

Please test any new SD with h2testw, F3 or F3X before trusting it.

Good luck and have fun!

I have a 128GB SanDisk Ultra myself and only use half of it. I can't even think of how I can make use of a 512GB card on the 3DS.

Are there even enough games WORTH playing to fill up 512GB on the 3DS?

But we're talking old school roms right so they can't be that big in size although it can add up if you want EVERY single game out there.

I mean if I don't plan on playing the game, I won't have it on the system at all even though I always buy a bigger micro SD than my calculations (games I want to play).

No need to waste time, flash space and money but that's just me.

I want to see Woody in 3D.

I think OP wanted to know if a SD card bigger than 64GB is possible on the 3DS and an answer was given.

On the same thread, someone randomly recommended a 256GB/512GB card not even knowing how many games OP intends to install or if he's using it CFW.

It just bothers me a bit that's all.

It's kind of like asking if an I can upgrade my GPU and get randomly recommended a GTX 3070 Super or GTX 3080 Ti without even knowing what I'll be using it for.

I mean, why not? Bigger cards can hold more, esp if OP decides they wanna get ahold of more games at what ever time. Its a pain when you have a crappy card of like 8 or 16gb and not having the space ya want.
