Kinda sucks thats there are hdmi issues but as long as there aren't a bunch of issues in general then I will take the leap to update to the test builds :toot:

Pie changes the partition layout significantly, so it’ll require you to flash a completely new image to your SD card.
There may be ways to preserve app data but I haven’t looked into it
Ah okay, well thank you for the information. I don't play on android switch too much, so I won't lose much progress, I'll just look into a backup so I can save my roms/isos before I update.

Nobody will share it because snobbery.

It has nothing to do with "Snobbery"

First of all. ANYONE can go to their discord and look at the guide and compile it themselves. So it's not like they are hiding it.

Secondly the reason no one will share a image is because again it's not 100% complete. The devs don't want a ton of people to suddenly get their hands on this only to complain about bugs they are already aware of which is why it hasn't been publicly released yet.

The reason they don't mind people building it themselves is because if u have the skills to compile it then they deem you worthy of being someone who can report on the bugs and try "fixes" that they bring up from time to time in the discord.

They want Pie to be perfect once released. As of now it's in a MUCH better state then when this was originally posted in Jan(Which at that point was already in a better state then the publicly released image of oreo) But there are still some nasty bugs that needs to be ironed out. Biggest ones being deep sleep crashing the switch and joycons randomly disconnecting.

But rest assured it's coming along very nicely and will be worth the wait, But always remember 2 things. One. IT'S FREE, They don't owe u anything. And two. YOU CAN BUILD IT YOURSELF.

First, "anyone can compile it itself" true but only if you don't mind to install a linux distro just for that, and also you have a modern pc with at least 16gb of ram, a decent cpu, 500gb free space and a full free day dedicated to it. Also the process it's a pain in the ass, it's not difficult but tedious as hell.

Secondly, nobody are requesting a full complete and polished build, just a test build to check how pie it's working and progressing. This is a scene forum, where people come to "play with their hardware" so they know what to expect about a software that still in development.

And finally, I can understand that developers don't want to compile an oficial test build because they prefer to launch a complete and tested version, it's their decision and this is fine, but there are people here that compiled a test build but "if you wanna test it do it yourself" stuff because potato, so yep snob people.

fyi, the official devs have asked us specifically not to share builds with others on several occasions, and most of us want to respect their wishes.

source code is out there and anyone wanting to test it can build their own copy. but don't bother asking for help so unless you know your way around Linux wait for it

I found a ready-to-install build of Android 9 at some japanese site.
Installed, and it works wonders.
Tried Dolphin MMJ, and my favorite Rune Factory Frontier runs full speed. Great.
With android 9 it detects joycons as physically connected devices, and recognizes them as a controller by default.
Strange shitchroot didn't release his own build, it's basically free of problems(well, there are a few things that didn't go well for me, but I don't care about them much)
Anyone who wants it - it's here(https://noitalog.tokyo/nintendo-switch-android-9-0/). But you'll have to use google-fu to translate unless you are me(I am a certified japanese master)
Unlike the shit that we have with 8.1, it's easy to install right from hekate(I didn't risk my SD card, so I installed it on a separate one, since it's fiddling with mix MBR, and I actually had to format it once)

I tested pie while it was still being developed and yea it was way better than 8.1, no popups of processes crashing, ran smooth and all. but ps remote play had a green screen when using it and it was due to missing drivers in the build.

I ll will eventually look at android 10 for switch later

share a build if you get one, I wanna try it too.
I recently updated my smartphone from A9 to A10, and it became an even fiercier beast(in fact, global FW with A9 was restraining the SD855 processor A WHOLE LOT)

I would love to try that. The A10 version is not public yet?
There are no official builds released other than android 8.1. Android 10(Q) seems to be close to releasing so might as well wait for that instead of using 9.0.
Also no point in using leaked build since pie development is dead and Q builds become obsolete every few days currently.
