heh... I'm both hard modded and I have an NTRboot flash card.

I'm guessing someone is having problems with torrents. My ISP likes to block them. I use VPN unlimited (I have a lifetime license), and I need to choose a server specifically labeled for Torrents. Have to do that every time a MAME update rolls around...

If someone is sharing the files you need there. I've never been able to navigate TOR for anything at all. Onion browser app is on my phone even... never really find anything interesting though.

The answer is you don't need MSET or a frankenfirmware.

1) MAKE A NAND BACKUP. Save it in 2 or 3 different folders on your PC. Can't have too many backups...

2) Back up your ENTIRE SD CARD.

3) Follow any number of Guides to downgrade your 3DS to 11.2

4) Using files I've posted elsewhere on this site, Use Luma to chainload bootCtr9, to chainload the GW loader.

5) Allow GW to create an Emunand (your SD card will be wiped out)

6) Copy all of your SD card files back

7) Update your sysnand back to the latest

8) Enjoy your 3ds with an updated sysnand, and an 11.2 emunand that you can use the Gateway in.
I installed mset_usa.cia and setup gateway but it crashes on the arm9 when I boot gw.

I just installed it with FBI and followed gateways official guide to installing mset. ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
Which is what?

You're going to have to figure everything out on your own I am afraid. Nobody is familiar with this as it hasn't been normal for many years now so we don't know what the pitfalls are. If you could tell us what the steps are, if someone is feeling kind they could analyse them to find out what mistake you're making or why it can't work.

1. Download gateways firmware.
2. Go to "MSET4.2 installers for New 3DS REGION SPECIFIC !!!"
3. Install (your region code here)/mset_(your region code here).cia and (your region code here)/bluecardfix.cia
4. Install Godmode9i.cia (not from gateway)
5. Copy "Blue Card (R4i)/GW_INSTALLER.nds" to your sd card.
6. Launch Godmode9i
7. Run GW_INSTALLER.nds.
8. Go into system settings.
9. Go to Other settings, profile, nintendo ds profile, and then you're DONE! (or at least that's what I thought.)

NO! I modded my o3dsxl today.

Erm...

Anyway, even if you install whatever that is, MSET isn't going to work while you are currently running a CFW. You'll have to uninstall it. The context of those instructions would be running CFW through homebrew/browserhax (not installed permanently) on 9.2 and installing the cia file then rebooting so that CFW is no longer applied, or, installing the cia file through homebrew (which only works on low enough firmware - 9.2 or maybe 11.2)

Thanks! I got that to work! But now I have a new issue, When I boot into classic mode while telling it to continue without red cart, It's stuck on a black screen.
That will never be fixed, as there is no available source code and the company is not ever touching it again. As for classic mode... I never messed with it myself. GW has really only one use other than piracy, and that's their cheat engine. Anything else... it's better to simply use Luma.

GW is only compatible with 11.2 and below. If your sysnand is above that, I don't think it's possible to even get to the GW menu without black-screening, let alone use classic mode (which again, will not work above 11.2. The ONLY thing classic mode gives you is the ability to run legit carts. If you're trying to run cheats on a cart you own, my best advice is to dump it to .3ds or .cia and install/run it from emunand to use the GW cheat engine.

CTR transfer down to 9.2 then you can upgrade, either with a cartridge or by installing the system update cias with sysdowngrader
What would I do to find a CTRTRANSFER Image that isn't a torrent?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

THEN EXPLAIN THIS:

You can't, they're all torrents.

That is from selectively installing system cias from newer firmwares, avoiding the ones that make Gateway break - it is not really running Gateway on a newer firmware. You can do it if you want to but it is a lot of trouble to go to for not really any benefit. You'll have to downgrade your emuNAND anyway, before you can install those select system cias.

Could I use an 2.1.0 ctrtransfer image? (That's all I could find)
