Gary did confirm it. Your GC slot fuses will be fine if you don't use the slot itself and you are on the latest SX OS. SX OS protects the slot by disabling it automatically. It re-enables if you put a cart in the slot so don't so that.

It is worth mentioning that it has been said by some VERY RELIABLE people that there will be a way to bypass the GC fuse check in the future anyway.

What you mean by this, you mean that only during the update process to not use the card slot? If we use it in the CFW/emunand it will not update the GC slot or what?

This changed with v9.0 and higher, it will burn your GC fuses, even if you don't use the cartridge slot.

There really no harm is losing your GC fuses, as there not much reason to be downgrading to lower firmware anyway, and even if you did downgrade to lower firmware, the only function you could not use would be original cartridges, and the only reason to be on lower firmware would be to use it as entry point like warmboot or coldboot, and in those cases again you only be on lower firmware for exploit boot time, with it booting up into latest emunand where you be playing your games.

So I personally really don't see why there is all this fuss about GC fuses and saving them.

I was under the whole impression that emunand would allow us to have the best of both worlds. Online play in OFW and backup games in CFW. But if the gc is broken then how would you play official games online?

That's not a problem as your OFW would be on the latest firmware to be able to go online as your GC would read just fine.

It's only an issue if your OFW is running firmware lower than 9.x but in those cases you could not go online on lower firmware anyway.

Hi just to clarify this: I use sxos since launch and my sysnand is still on 5.1 and now my emunand is on 10.1.0 and sxos 3.0.4 beta. I never used any gamecard on emunand, only xci emulation. Yesterday I decided to dump my xenoblade chronicles 2 and zelda botw gamecards to play their dlcs and also to verify the status of my gamecard firmware. I rebooted to 5.1.0 with emunand disabled from sxos bootloader and my gamecard slot worked just fine and dumped my games. Before rebooting to emunand I obviously removed the gamecard from the slot. My dumps are working fine on 10.1.0 emunand. So it seems that never using the gamecard slot on sxos preserves its fuses. Just for completion I also add that I updated to 9.0 when it was firstly released the sxos version supporting it. I'm not 100% secure if I updated the same day it came out or after a couple of days, as some time is passed and I haven't a really good memory about this things. Also sorry for reviving this thread but I think could be useful for someone.
