am i the only one getting a shit ton of ads everywhere? like i’ll be using dolphin, and then 10 seconds go by, and i’m hit with an ad. it wouldn’t be a problem but it seems like every 30 seconds i’m getting one. even just opening chrome i’m hit with an ad

Sounds like you might have installed a dodgy app or something, have a check.
Adaway is always nice to install on a rooted Android anyway.

maybe but i only have like 5 things installed lol most being emulators. i did install adaway earlier today, but i haven’t noticed any difference. is there a way to see which app might be causing this?

Are any of them pirated?

none of the installed ones, no. i think i had a cracked damonps2 but it didn’t work. so i uninstalled it, and deleted the apk. also had a cracked sonic cd but i took that off too since i don’t have much storage space.

i pretty much just have dolphin, supern64, drastic ds, and as of today, f droid so i could get adaway. besides the apps that come pre installed.

Some apps have ad-supported free options that suddenly become totally free with adaway installed, like virtually all of the sonic games. No need to bother with cracks then. Still need some internet connection though I think.

i have adaway though. but i’ve still been plagued by ads today. ironically enough, i was trying to record a video of me playing until a pop up happened.. 20 minutes went by and no pop up. as soon as i stopped recording, one appears lol

Hey there,

anyone interested in running some benchmarks to compare heat development?
I've recently replaced the thermal paste on mine and would like to know if it made a difference.

While I have yet to find something that'd push the switch in the same way some of it's games would in terms of temperature, comparing even low temp development should at least make some things more objective than just 'well it feels colder in korok forest I think'.

I've been using Antutu/Antutu 3d, 3D Mark and CPU Prime almost back to back.

Performance Settings were at original standard (middle) for these tests.

I was charging with unofficial charger cause battery was pretty low after installation, undocked, lying on a table (joycons connected), so there was airflow to the vents.

My switch has the copper shim removed, MX-4 thermal paste between die and heatsink, as well as additional thermal pads connecting the ramshield and the copper heat pipe to the metal shielding.
I didn't remove the ramshield so there's still the original compound below it.
Ambient temp is about 20-21°C

Antutu 3D gave me somewhat in the 200000 point range but didn't really raise temps a lot.
Antutu stress test (15 minutes) slowly got it towards ~40°C

____

3D Mark
Here I ran the suggested
sling shot extreme opengl
and
sling shot extreme vulcan
temp again went up to 40°C

I was using antutus temp display to check though, as 3D mark seems to measure temps inaccurately (Antutus temp display is in the notification area.)

____
Finally, I ran

CPU Prime stress-test
Starting at about 38°C leftover from 3D Mark.
It slowly reached 43° after 10 minutes, at which point I had to stop to charge the battery.
Again, using Antutus Temp display, as CPU Prime only measures battery temp.

Overall, it seems CPU Prime is the only one that can, given time, tax the system enough to reach the ~50°C a BOTW or DQB2 could bring the switch to after a while, so it's probably the best to compare temp development.

Once the battery is charged (jesus android charges slowly...), I'll do another CPU Prime Stress test at the highest performance setting, probably checking temps every 5 minutes / seeing how fast it reaches 50°C.

It seems that docking the system aborts this stress test and I'm not far enough into android to know how to tap stuff when docked...

I'd really be interested to see how different thermal mods stack up against each other, but for the time being, it'd be enough if one or two people with an unmodded (well in the temperature sense) system are interested in comparing data?

If so, just download Antutu Benchmark (for the temp display) and CPU Prime. Both are free. Start the stress test and pull down notifications to keep an eye on temps.
Charging is definitely advised as this drains the battery.

Here's a format to make it easier:

1. Switch setup
Room Temp (estimate):
Charger: Official/Unofficial
Docked: Y/N
Android Performance Setting: Max Performance please

2. Any thermal modification?

If Y:
Thermal paste:
Copper Shim removed?
Cleaned under RAM shield?
Thermal pad over RAM area?
Thermal pads over heat pipe?
Anything else of note?

3. CPU Prime Stress test
Starting Temp:
After 2 Minutes:
After 5 Minutes:
After 10 Minutes:
After 15 Minutes:
After 20 Minutes:
Reaching 50°C:
Reaching 55°C:

Just in case max performance actually lets it jump above 55°C or something, I'd say abort then. The switch can take a lot more, but I don't wanna be responsible for any damages either.

Ok, so I've finally made my first run. Might be it was higher than 38 when istarted it first after all.

1. Switch setup

Room Temp (estimate): 22°C
Charger: Unofficial
Docked: N
Android Performance Setting: Max Performance

2. Any thermal modification?

If Y:
Thermal paste: MX-4
Copper Shim removed? Y
Cleaned under RAM shield? N
Thermal pad over RAM area? Y
Thermal pads over heat pipe? Y
Anything else of note? N

3. CPU Prime Stress test
Starting Temp: 37,2°C
After 2 Minutes: 38,6°C
After 5 Minutes:40,1°C
After 10 Minutes:41,4°C
After 15 Minutes:42,1°C
After 20 Minutes:42,6°C
After 25 Minutes: 43°C
After 30 Minutes: 43,1°C

After 30 Minutes, it seemed like things wouldn't actually get any higher so i stopped.

Doing a quick reset back into hekate revealed something weird, namely that it measured a different temperature of 46,8°C... I'll do another run once it's cooled down just to see if whatever it displays ends up being in the same ballpark as the first time. Even if it's not the true temperature, it'd still be comparable then.

Second test, started at lower temperature, but while it seemed like the initial heat up would quickly close the gap, temperatures rose a lot slower this second time around. So maybe this was all for nothing :(

CPU Prime Stress test
Starting Temp: 35.5°C (This seems to be about the idle temp from just waiting in the homescreen for a while)
After 2 Minutes: 38,3
After 5 Minutes: 39,5
After 10 Minutes: 39,9
After 15 Minutes: 40,5
After 20 Minutes: 40,9
After 25 Minutes: 41,3
After 30 Minutes: 41,4

Hekate again higher at 43,7

Long posts are long... @_@

I know it's stated that Wifi randomly stops working, but how reliable is it for something like watching Twitch? Does it normally stay on for a few hours before cutting off, or can it happen 4 minutes in?

Make sure Adaway is actually enabled. It needs to be granted superuser rights, which you can check in Magisk. Then in Adaway itself it has to be turned on. Then you have to force it to check for updates. Finally do a reboot to apply.

Out of curiousity has anyone managed to display above 1080p? I have tried with certain emulators to increase resolution beyond that, and I am seeing no visible difference. It would be nice when docked if possible.

This, does the image need to be actually smaller than the card?

Hello, if I use SX OS does it mean I just need to boot Hekate first off SX OS then from there boot Android?

Also, if my card is 128 GB, is it safe to flash the 128 image or do I need to go lower to 64?

I boot with hekate through sxos, i used 16 image for 16gb sd card to test(ran fine), not only is 128 safe for 128, it is generally recommended.

I don't think it can go higher from

I just used the same, 128 for 128

I don't think the hardware is physically capable of it. Horizon won't even do 1920x1200 for my 16:10 monitor, even though it detects it as 16:10, and instead forces 1440x900 (even though it could handle straight 1080p just fine...)
