Are you sure your carts are legit? I've run into the same problem with known counterfeit carts, but my real carts work fine. I'm not sure how to extract working saves from counterfeit carts, and would also love to know. I posted my own thread about that issue here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/dump-sa...gba-games-using-gba-backup-tool-on-ds.541356/

For counterfeit gba games the save is in the rom file itself, you could dump the rom and get the save out using a hex editing program, however you wouldn't be able to put the save back in it since it dumps the whole rom and would need to reflash the cart.

I heard that too, but loading the ROM from the cart itself (in an emulator) still doesn't make my saves available.

My counterfeit emerald actually let's me play the rom of it I dumped on VisualBoyAdvance and loads up the save file without it having it extracted, while I was able to extract the file hex editing it didnt need it to boot the save

I know that's what "should" happen. That's why I'm saying it isn't working that way for me. I've tried it with VBA-M and mGBA, and no luck. Do you think I need to try an older/outdated emulator for some reason?

Alright. I was able to get one of the games saves to load using that emulator. How do I extract the save from the ROM?
In the emulator with the game loaded you can hit "File" and then "Export" then "Battery file" and then save the file and that should be the save which you can modify or do as you please with. On mine I also have it set to automatic and flash 64k for the save type, to change that if needed you can go to "Options" and then "Save Type"

Thank you. That worked for my counterfeit Fire Red. I'm still trying to get the physical Liquid Crystal cart I bought as a curiosity to work, though. That save won't load in an emulator, no matter what I do.
